Normal range of laptop Hard Drive temperature?

I just downloaded this cool program that shows my hard drive temperature on my tool bar.

My Dell is three years olds and I am worried about my hard drive taking a dump on me.

What is a normal operating temp of a laptop hard drive?

At what point is it "too hot"?

Sometimes I run multiple programs on dual screens and I am going to monitor the temp.

I also found a cool utility that lets you know the CPU temp and fan speed, and lets you overide the fan control if you want.

I owned a PC repair business for 4 years, and in 4 years of runnning it, and all years before and after, I've never seen a hard drive fail due to over heating. Laptop or Desktop.

Laptops are generally designed with decent air flow, you just have to pay attention to the intakes and exhaust vents, keep them clear and clean.

In 10 years in the IT business, the HD failures I've seen were almost always either related to a manufacturing defect or because the drive was jostled or jarred too much. It's not uncommon for drives to last many years, even in a laptop. I agree that overheating is very uncommon. For that to occur, you have to have several drives stacked closely together with no airflow (a bad fan in a drive array will cause that), but that's unlikely in a notebook.

I've seen plenty of hard drives fail due to overheating..usually right after the data center ac craps out..

Thanks for the link. I'm running at 37C at the moment. The settings say that 50C is a "warning" level, and 60C is "critical".

BTW, do you guys know of any program (free) that will tell me how well my pc is running? I have a dell E1505 with the duo processors but can't tell if it's run at full potential. My gf's celeron seems as fast.LOL

WCPUCLK is what I used to see the clock speed of my laptop.
I wanted to see if the AMD PowerNow! is working correctly. It slows down the CPU to conserve power (also to run cooler. Before, this laptop was a real space heater).
