I ran into a high school chum of mine today. His wife is a managing director at a large Wall St. Bank.

He hasn't had a job in 10 years (graduated law school in the meantime, has never practiced) He plays golf, coaches some baseball.

He laughed when he spoke about it. It's like he had won the lottery! I didn't even envy him.

What's wrong with me?

When I read the topic I thought this was about Jack Black in 'Nacho Libre.'

Yeah, what is wrong with you, Grouchy? Better work on your ethics.

Groucho,

Just think, every high powered managing director needs a wife.

And if he dont please her, he will be replaced by a younger, better looking model.

LOL.

Dan

I must say I admire him.

While my wife does very well, there is no way that I could ever sit around and sponge off of her hard work. The idea of being unproductive is disgusting to me.

I like working ... a life of inactivity is punishment. The trick is to find interesting work with decent pay/benefits etc.

I don't see anything wrong with what he is doing as long as he does all of the house chores so she doesn't have to bust her butt when she comes home from work.

I would hardly call him inactive, playing golf and coaching are better than eating Bon-Bons and watching Oprah and the View

Would I call him lucky? Depends on how good looking his wife is.

Well, as long as he's not on a cell phone all day "chatting" ..then he's good to go for still being all male.

Who thinks he made her sign a prenup? It's easy for him in case of a divorce -- assuming he has no considerable amount of money beyond his milk money and the money he ows for law school. She can have half of nothing, but he'll get half of whatever she got.

Anyway, since he's a lawyer, I hope he finds some time between golf games and dropping off the kids at school do do some pro bono work for the poor, UNICEF, etc. Otherwise, I'm sure karma will get him eventually by the nads.

"Otherwise, I'm sure karma will get him eventually by the nads."

Like it gets the women who stayed home to raise children? Attended garden club, book club, and sank a few at the country club?

It's their life, their business.

I'd say the only thing that matters with a stay-home parent is the education of the kids. As someone else once said, "Schools are for training, home is for education". The cultural, intellectual and spiritual lives of the family is, ostensibly, best served by the parent at home.

From what I've heard he isn't raising the kids and doing the house work. If he's doing all that besides golfing, I have no complaints.

I doubt he owes anything for law school. He went out of boredom 10 years ago and my guess is his wife is good for over $300k per year.

He looked like he spends quality time in the gym, so he's not a couch potato.

Al, he should be thanked for not practicing.
