NO ONE has 9mm ammo!

No doubt the government is buying more than ever. DHS didn't exist a few years ago and they are sucking up hundreds of millions of rounds of ammo production. However, I believe the pipeline will eventually become saturated, become replenished and prices will drop.

When has the price of anything dropped to where "it used to be" lately?

It doesn't happen anymore. The price goes up, and then it just stays there.

Thankfully the prices haven't gone up, just supply has gone down.

A couple of times a week I have to drive past "Cheaper Than Dirt" off the north loop in Ft Worth.

Stopped by when I saw a parking space availiable.

They are cleaned out of everything.

Sure it has. I bought my first handgun in Jan 2009 and built up a stash of 10,000 rounds per caliber at $200/1000 9mm; $250/1000 for .40; and $300/1000 for .45. These prices will return. Just give it some time. All the talk about new gun laws will die down and prices will come with it.

Your problem is that you didn't stock up when prices were low six months ago. So now, you've got to pay up. Maybe next time around you'll take action.

I bought my first 9mm in 05 and ammo was $4.99 for a box of 50 brass cased range ammo. In 08 it was up to $7.99 a box. IMO you will not find 9's for less than $12 a box ever again even when buying in bulk.

It seems there are different policies with different areas and places of business.

Some keep their ammo on hand by limiting stock to certain people, others jack the price up so high that a person can only afford x amount of rounds before they're broke or in trouble.

Some places can't keep it stocked no matter what they do.

At my club meeting last night, it was said that 9mm and .22 are almost impossible to get. The guy who spoke deals with five distributors, and they don't have any.

I also heard that NJ is going to 10rd mags.

Shop owner I know told me today that his distributor says theres no let up in sight. Makes you wonder, doesn't it, why so many people are afraid of what might happen in this country?

Those that aren't worried are in denial. Does not matter what you tell them.

Bass Pro has 9mm here, regular price. They had Remington UMC, Winchester, and something else. Didn't check .22 since I don't own any .22s.

It's not like it used to be though when you could walk into any store with ammo and there would be stacks of 9mm boxes. It's definitely still a limited supply.

Ammo will go bad over time. I've got a couple of coffee cans of 12 guage that I inherited from my Uncle. These shells are ancient, (I'm guessing back to the 50's). Last summer, I had a racoon that enjoyed my garbage at least one a week. One night, I heard him tipping my cans over and told my wife, "tonight is the night!" I grabbed my gun and one of these shells, went outside and sure enough, there he was chowing down. He ran up to the top of an oak tree that sits next to my garage. I got right under him, aimed and pulled the trigger. The gun gave a soft "pop," the shot came out of the end of the barrel and literally rained down on top of me. I don't think it went higher than 10 feet in the air. Oddly enough, the racoon never returned. I think he was insulted at the way I had tried to kill him.

the shotgun shells that went "bad" were obviously stored improperly....exposed to excessive humidity, extreme temperature changes or something to that effect...I've fired shotshells that were 75+ years old and they were just as effective and had as much recoil as "modern" shells. Key indicators of bad shells are badly discolored/mottled brass, swelling of the paper case where it meets the brass and/or excessively soft paper cases.

For kicks and giggles, I went to "Cheaper" than Dirt's website last night.

They had 9mm FMJ Armscor ammo listed for $59 A BOX. (50 rounds)

I'm so ashamed of myself for placing that one order with them... never again.

Bought Winchester White Box 9mm 115 gr range ammo 100 rounds this morning here for $26.50 and a box of 525 rounds of .22 Long Rifle Remington hollow points for $19.99.

Tuesday I got a box of 525 Federal .22LR Hollow Points for $29.99 and I also lucked out with 4 boxes of 9mm (2 Federal, 2 Remington) for under $60.

and although I'm not really a "defense round" guy, today I ordered a box of 9mm Hornady Zombie H.P. loads (25 count) and at the same time a box of 100 Remington .22LR from Cabelas.com.

Defens rounds were $19.99, .22LR was $7.99. Best part? Signed up for the visa card, got $20 off and had it delivered to a nearby store. Including tax it was $9. I'll be set for awhile.

Where at? Apparently whoever you bought from is not a price gouger ... yet.

Some places on-line are trying to get 30 to 50 cents PER ROUND for .22LR. That equates to $165 to $275 for at "550 round brick" which use to cost $19 at Walmart.

All this high priced ammo is just price gouging by the sellers ... nothing else.
