NO ONE has 9mm ammo!

$16.99/50 for PMC actually seems kind of high to me, but it's better than nothing. The last time I bought PMC about a month ago it was $13.99.

The Remington UMC I got today was $14.99/50. I think in the past I got it for around $10/50 at ****'s (over a year ago).

Tul was always $9.99/50 at Wal-Mart, but forget finding any of that anymore.

I will say that the manufacturers of guns and ammo should really thank Obama. Gun sales and ammo sales are going through the roof! How are the Feds going to take everybody's guns and ammo away? The stuff will be hidden everywhere. They might as well not even try.

How silly the bans on 'assault rifles' and high capacity magazines are. With all of this buying there will be plenty of AR-15s and other guns considered 'assault rifles.' And there will be plenty of high capacity magazines in circulation as well. The anti-gunners might as well give up right now. The people have spoken. Shouldn't it be obvious where the people stand on these issues? Why would any thinking politician go against the will of the people?

^ Yeah I agree with Mystic.

I started to get a little worried because as I went out today every store I went to there was no 9mm ammo as well as other handgun ammo. And then the conversations with store owners, and other gun owners who came in and were in the same boat as me. "Looking for 9mm?" "Yep" "Good luck, haven't found any around anywhere since last week". The fact that I went looking last night and spotted some 9mm ammo at a store, went back and checked today and it was completely wiped clean is an indication that people are actually on a mission to buy ammo here. When I called around the owners had sounded like they were receiving calls all day. The Wal Mart had a shipment in last night but sold their last box of 9mm this afternoon. He said they can't keep it stocked and it's basically trickling in. This is a town of 25,000 people. Oh and they had the sign for "3 boxes of ammo total" on the cage.

I guess that's why I 'jumped the gun' pun intended, and bought at least 1 box of PMC from this tiny shop.

I learned from the first ammo shortage when Obama was first elected and now I have a small stockpile of ammo. So I am not too worried. I have enough target ammo for my 9 mm for a while. But I don't have much in the way of .40 for my Glock.

But after a while the panic buying will die down UNLESS the Feds really start doing some crazy stuff. But I think they will have a hard time getting the more radical proposals through Congress. If they somehow were able to get the stuff through that they really want to get through we would all be in trouble (except for the criminals who basically can get whatever they want and don't worry about any laws anyway). In Mexico inspite of severe restrictions the Cartel criminals can get whatever they want in the way of weapons.

I will wait out the panic and get some .40 for my Glock. And with all the guns in circulation I might try in the future to get a .357, a .45, a 12 gauge pump action, and a 30.06. If there are any crazy high capacity magazine bans a .357 or a .45 would make a lot of sense. But I will keep the high capacity magazines I already have unless the Feds search my house. High capacity magazine bans would maybe bring back the revolver and the 1911 .45. And I don't have to have an AR-15. A 30.06 comes in pretty handy. They can't ban all hunting rifles I don't think.

Last time I checked, dirt was going for about $12,000 an acre around here. Few years back, it was $4,000 an acre.

The same applies for the prices at Cheaperthandirt. They need to change the name of their business.

Just checked there site and all they have is high end defense rounds just like everybody. Cheaper than dirt is on most gunowners black list for what they did right after Sandy Hook.

The ammo shortage has been going on for over a month and local gunshops shelves are almost empty except for high end 1911's. They have some ammo but only for purchase of 1 box and only for use on there range.

Have you been under a rock for the last couple months?

Most of the .50BMG ammo I shoot is military surplus and headstamped LC 08 & 09.....a lot of the WWII (30's & 40's)and Korea (40's & 50's) ammo is for collectors. Have you actually seen cases recently marked 43, 44, etc?

Midway, Natchez, Cheaperthandirt, bulkammo.com, if not in stock, will notify you via e-mail that XXX ammo is available. I recently got an e-mail from one of them at 2:08AM that 5.56 was available...ordered 1k rounds at 2:50AM (wake up time anyway), texted a friend about it at 3:30AM and they were already sold out.

You have to be ready to pull the trigger (pun intended) when you get the e-mail. We put 1k rounds away for each firearm we would keep when war breaks out in the US so the rest is just for shooting. I have supplies enough to reload another 2k rounds for 12 ga, 9mm, 5.56, and 7.62x39 (cases, hulls, powder, primers, projectiles, and shot). I have a lot for .45acp and .44 mag but they won't be with me when the time comes.

This happened in 2009 also but I think it's worse this time....I learned my lesson back then and stocked up (yep, I was one of the fools that actually paid $1 EACH for .380 back then!!!!) and I store it sealed in ziplock bags and gasketed military ammo cans. 7.62x39 remains in their sardine cans. Brass handloads also get a smear of poly over the primer and around the case mouth. 12 ga gets a smear across the primer and a little wax sealing the crimp. Overboard? Yep! That's me!

If the ammo situation doesn't improve, just wait a bit longer and you'll have plenty to choose from off the bodies laying around.

I don't get why 22lr is in short supply. IIRC the high cap 22's were almost excepted from any potential ban. I guess once everything else dried up, people are convinced to stash whatever they can.

I did buy a case of 7.62x54 today, good price. I think that means I'm now committed to actually buying one of those 91/30's now...

This was how I got lucky enough to get a second 15 round magazine for my pistol. I left my email address at a "notify me" link at a couple dozen vendors' sites.

Just two nights later, I got an email message at around 7:30pm, telling me that one of the vendors had them in stock. I was sitting at the laptop at the time, so I had it ordered and paid for within three minutes. The shipping was a rip off ($11 via ground for a magazine that weighed a few ounces... but what are you going to do?)

I haven't seen another message since, and that was about three weeks ago.

Yeah, I used to think people who sat on lots of ammo were nuts for doing so. Maybe it made sense on account of metal costs rising, little gets cheaper as the years go by, but even then, it doesn't dramatically shoot up.

I'm still not convinced there will ever be an ammunition ban in my lifetime. Magazine limits, bans on certain firearms, sure: but outright "you can't buy 223"? nope.

But since this is the second time in four years that buying ammo has gotten problematic, well, I think I'll just start making sure to sit on a small pile. Same cost over the years, isn't it? I just won't sit on 100k or something stupid--would hate to have a house fire, or theft, or anything of that nature wipe out that "savings". Not only that, but we did see a dramatic rise in metal prices. Ammunition is still probably the cheapest in years (taking into account depreciation/inflation), though.

Really, it's no different than stocking up on toilet paper or canned goods or what have you.

Only one lonely colt .45 box at my local Walmart yesterday. Everything was wiped out. It used to be during ammo shortages you could find .38 or .357...not the case this time. Checked the sporting goods store nearby and the same thing but yep they had a good stock of colt .45.

I understand what happened and yes I have been keeping a keen ear on things. I just did not expect an ammo shortage like this. I expected thin supply, not total barenness.

Ha, just called walmart. Another truck came in this morning with some 9mm ammo on it. It was gone before noon. What the heck...
