I've changed the oil myself since 17,000 miles when I bought the car. Last week when I changed the oil I noticed that I did not lose one drop of oil down the side of the block when I took off the filter. The filter itself looked really really empty of oil. Hardly any residue at all. I didn't change the oil any different than I had in the past. I used a Purlolater filter and this was the third one in a row used. My process: Drive car home from work and drive onto ramps. Let cool down while I change clothes (+-10 min) Long enought so I don't burn my arms on the exahaust yet the engine and oil is still noticably warm/hot. Pull the plug, pull the oil filter and let drain for 5-10 min. Reinstall and fill. This is my routine when I do my oil changes and I always have oil coming down the side of the block and there is always oil in the filter. This time like I said there was none. I'm wondering if I had a bad filter? maybe there is something plugged in my engine? What do you think. I still have the filter so I can cut it open but I have not do that yet. It looks just fine from the outside but there just wasn't any oil in it. Seems very strange to me. What do you BITOG'ers think?

As someone else mentioned on another thread. Pics of cut up filters are like porn to BITOG users.

I'll see what I can do to get it cut open with pictures. I've only tried to disect one filter before and I hacked it up pretty bad just trying to get it open.

I have noticed some strange noises every once in a while when I start up the car. It sounded to me like a bearing on a belt tensioner or something like that but it only happend a couple of times and it went away within 30 seconds so I never found out what it was. I guess it could have been worse than I thought!

I think I might try and change the oil again soon and see if I find the same results in the filter. This time I used a supertech filter because I was at walmart.

I had the same thing happen when removing a Purolator over 1 year ago. It has never happened since. My guess is the anti-drainback valve was not working.
