How rigorous its the NJ inspection on a MY1993 vehicle with no airbag? As far as I know, there is NO emissions testing for that year, and if all lights work, wipers, horn, tires are good, has mirrors, and can be shifted into park (?) it will pass.

Bought my car last year near North Brunswick that passed NJ inspection in the same month. Brought it back to PA and failed immediately for 1. Dead side marker light 2. Worn out driver side inner tie rod.

So my guess is 'not very'.

If there's a check engine light on , you will automatically fail. They also check the gas cap. Not much else. They eliminated inspection on motorcycles altogether on motorcycles. They used to do a more thorough emission test on cars like your years ago, but scaled it all back to save money.,,

It's a 93. Assuming you have a regular NJ passenger car registration and the car runs on gasoline; to pass:
-no visible smoke
-no excessive liquid leaks
-pass a tailpipe test
-pass a gas cap test
-catalytic converter appears to be in place
-nothing so horribly wrong the inspector is afraid to drive the car to testing equipment

The old safety checks do not apply. You do not have to have registration and insurance card. Plates need not be attached but at least one must be present.
