As is likely known here by now, having lost an otherwise serviceable well maintained vehicle to what I consider gross Nissan deception, the precat defect is still a very sore subject with me.
fwiw, as for what Nissan did or didn't do on the recall. Unless the engine had failed (new engine, who knows if precat was addressed?), it was an oil change, and install a shield over the precat, which may been more for an unrelated potential exhaust fire recall than anything to do with the precat failure defect.
That's the dealer fail-bomb there. The dealership I use in Canada replaced ALL QRs once Nissan launched the TSB/re and re program for the QRs. This included a short block and a new exhaust manifold with the revised screens.
FYI, QR25 Series IIs are not supposed to have this issue. Also, the pre-cats are only there for pre-ignition to the main converter's catalyst and CAN be removed if your state doesn't have a drive-clean program that tests for cold/warm-up emissions but obviously can't in Cali.
