Sorry for newb question.

Can I use these Rotella T5 10w-30 & 15w-40 oil in my gas engines? If it is ok, is it because of the API-CJ4/SM rating? Particularly the SM part?

Engines are 1997 4.6L F150 (205k miles) and 2003 2.3L (248k miles) by the way.

Yes-but if you burn a lot of oil, it might damage the catalytic converter. 15W40 might be a little thicker in arctic conditions, but the 10W30 flows really well cold. The 10W30 T5 might be one of the best universal (-ish) fleet oils out there.

The Rotella T5 10W30 Synthetic Blend is great for a cleaning oil also. Used that for the first 3 or 4 short oil changes when I got my Ram in signature with 64,xxxx miles on it in April 2010 & the elderly gentleman I purchased from said he strictly used conventional oil from buying it brand new. I can tell you, the initial oil change/the Mopar Filter I took off of it was the heaviest I ever felt an oil filter after an OCI. Wish I would have cut it open & inspected it -- no doubt it was loaded up with something...

It's rated SM. Your 1997 was probably rated for SL and your 2003 SM so you are covered there. I cannot imagine why you would pay extra for this lower PCMO rated oil when you can get an SP rated PCMO. If me I would use the SP rated oil and at those mileages it would be SuperTech 5 or 10w-30 SP/d1G2 (both your vehicles are rated for 5w-20 by Ford).

yes of course those engines arent gdi so lspi isnt possibly a concern and those engines can run up to 20w-50 as ive done it on them before when i owned an f150 and ranger

Yea, boring, I know...

Yes you can but why?
he already has it from the look of it and he might as well just use it. i wouldn't recommend buying it since suertech syn 5w-30 is a better deal and does a fine job but if its there and youre unsure just throw it in.
