That would be nice.

Hello Again. Has anyone done a recon mission to find this new "American Castrol" yet? I went to the AZ in DeKalb and they only had GC gold. Please respond. Thank you.

Thanks! Any further recon missions will be appreciated! Please, if this new stuff is found, include photos and serial numbers, if possible. Thanks again.

I picked up 5qts at an Autozone in San Antonio two days ago for my Evolution. It states that it is indeed "Made in Germany" and has the little BP logo on the back.

Great? Would it be too much trouble to post one of the serial numbers on the bottom of the bottle? I'm just trying to piece together this puzzle. Thanks!

I meant "Great!" not "Great?". It's late.

I bought some on Wed...May 31st

Different markings than the 05 vintage

No longer says "Out performs all leading motor oils"

New qt bottle:

M06044xxxxxxxx

On the front yellow banner says "European Formula"

A few statements changed on the back...Not much

Still says "Made in Germany"

Still has BP symbol

But changed company name on the back of the bottle from:

(05 vintage) Castrol North America Inc.
Wayne, NJ

to

(06 vintage) BP Lubricants USA Inc.
Wayne, NJ

I received a call (message)from an AZ in Punta Gorda Fl. today, (it is Sunday) I have never seen 0w30 there in either GC or old AC ( but to be truthfull I have never really looked except in the past 5 months or so). I had left them a message that if they got any new 0w30 in that was not made in Germany to give me a call. The message was they now have some on the shelf. I will try to get by there tomorrow, if it is in fact the new stuff, (that is a new batch, not made in Germany) I will invest in a bottle and try to make pictures of front, back and bottom. I have never posted pictures on the internet before but will make the effort.

Yes, thank you. It would be a shame if GC is no more.

I stand corrected...I don't remember that I got any from that batch. They were only 30 days apart...wow.

044 is the first batch produced in 06. It will have to be something later than that. z917990 earlier in this thread said he got a 087 batch; that would be a newer run and it still says "Made in Germany." It could be that there is parallel production going on (US and Germany). If Castrol wanted to find out just how big a deal the Made in Germany aspect of GC is, then they could market both and see which sells better (assuming people are paying attention to the source markings). It could also be there is still some residual GC flowing in until AC gets up to full production. Or it could be that they will continue to dual produce. We will just have to wait and see.

tick, tock, tick..... and now we all patiently wait for 007008 to report back. I still don't believe that there is any "new" made in USA 0w30, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

They also had a full rack of M-02156 pre-GC american made stuff priced a bit lower than $5.49 that I paid for the Gold. I showed one of the sales guys what was up with the old stuff, how old it was etc and he said they would remove it, yeah, right.

I hope this helps some. John

Thanks for your efforts. You're right; I do not think that 007 is referring to the really old "pre-GC" stuff from 5 years ago. Please keep the recon reports coming in. So far, 007 is the only one who has seen this new stuff.

Went by AZ yesterday evening. What they had was not the same stuff I saw back in May. I have never seen pre-GC 0w-30. But this stuff (they had about 30 quarts) was Syntech 0w30 not German made. It was a completely different label. Very basic, no pictures, did not list all the #'s like they normally do (like the "New Euro Formula" stuff I saw. Lable was red both sides and the product was SL grade. I was going to buy a bottle anyway, but when I checked the dates on the bottom the first 4-5 bottles all were M13XXXX ( I am positive), now based on what I understood about the coding, this stuff was either made in 1913 or 2013 neither of which I think could apply. The label did say it met all Mercedes an BMW requirement but again did not list all the numbers. Did not say anything about euro period. I have heard guys mention yellow label old syntech, but this was red. Now I can buy a bottle of this, and will if requested, you guys who are more informed on Castrol's packaging can tell me what I was looking at and what M13XXX on the date code means.
