I just bought a 2002 Ford Ranger 4X4 Edge with 43000 miles. My driving habits are this - I drive mainly in town and back and forth to work (3 miles). Every two weeks I usually make two 54 miles round trips. This truck has the 4.0 SOHC engine. What oil and oci should I use? I had a Chevy Blazer which I used Mobil 1. I changed the oil every six months at which time I have usually put 4500 to 5000 miles on vehicle.

Just do what you did with the Blazer. The 4.0L takes 5W30 (the 4.0L was not one of the engines back spec'd to 5W20) and Ford calls for a 5000 mi OCI for normal service and a 3000 mile OCI for severe service. With synthetic, 4500-5000 miles will be nothing at all.

Used truck? Do an Auto RX cycle with 5W30 Supertech, and then onto 5-6K miles/6 month intervals with PP (Pennzoil Platinum). I recommend Amosil Eao filters.

I would not use M1 unless I could get it ~$2/qt (unlikely).

MC 5W30 blend at Walmart $10/5qt or use TropArtic blend $1.68/qt (same Conaco)and the MC filter is grat combo for 5K OCI. (FL-820S are at Walmart for $3.28 and has similiar performance to Puralator P1). Then subsitiute a GrpIII oil (PP, QS, Valvoline) when on sale/rebate for $1-2/qt.

I have a 2005 Ford and this is what I'm doing execpt 5W20.

Gotta love America !
