I just got a 2010 Jetta from a family member and there's next to no coolant in the reservoir. I might as well do a drain and fill. This is my first ever VW. What are my coolant options?

Zerex G40. Not cheap, but it has the proper SI-OAT base. Napa and O'Reillys stock it. ECS Tuning is a good source for VW parts.

Napa's G40 price is actually cheaper than their price on the Asian coolants

$20.99 for the 50/50 premix
$27.99 for the concentrate

If you have Napa Rewards, you get 20% off those prices this month, making the prices more reasonable

Pentofrost should have an appropriate coolant for this application (G12/G13 whatever it is..) I buy Pentofrost concentrated coolant from Rockauto and it's cheaper than any name brand coolant I can find on store shelves (which is usually 50/50), assuming I add some other stuff to offset shipping. That was about a year ago I last ordered the stuff, so I have no idea what's happened to prices since then.

You should drain the remaining coolant and see what the condition is, if it is still purple then go ahead and fill with g40.

If not, you might want to flush it.

Apologies, I need to correct my mistake.
Glysantin G30 is VW G12++ (TL-774F), while Glysantin G40 is VW G13 (TL-774G).
That said, according to my documents Audi started using G13 from 8/2007 and
VW from 9/2008. OP says 2010 Jetta. So VW G13 still seems correct (though I've
been wrong with G30 as it's actually Glysantin G40).

It's kind of messed up, my 2020 Tiguan came with VW G12. My local dealer doesn't even stock G13 for some reason.

Shouldn't a 2020 come with the latest stuff, say VW G12evo = TL-774L = Glysantin G65?
VW and Audi started using G12evo from 8/2018. Don't ask why VW calls a replacement
for former G13 coolant G12evo and not G14 . . . .

Sorry yes I was being imprecise, it is G12evo. So what is G13 then? When I was trying to figure out what was in the engine it wasn't easy, there is no tag under the hood nor could I find it in the owner's manual.

It was probably factory filled G13. VW has been using overflow tanks still labeled G12 well beyond the switch over. When I went to get a jug of G12 is when I found out about G13, unlike your dealer mine only had G13 and no G12.

Well mine isn't labeled at all, and I actually bought a gallon of G13 at a dealer near work. But the color was different and that's what led me to the G12evo. So I have a gallon of both now.

That may me true in, say, 2008, 2009 or even 2010, but not in 2019/2020 still.
On a side note: If so, it was G12++ back then, which was followed by G13.
Anyway, I'm rather certain it's G12evo on a 2020.
We once had a discussion talking about differences between G13 and current
G12evo. Personally I think it isn't even critical whether you use G13 or G12evo.
Both can be even mixed and also with G12++. Similar pink color, OAT btw..

G12 Evo has been the factory fill since i think Mid-Late 2019, it's a HOAT with Silicate and Phosphate.

The only difference between G12++ and G13 is that G13 has about 15% Glycerin instead of Glycol, they have the exact same corrosion inhibitor package , Silicate + OAT.

G12 and G12+ are plain jane OATs, and the oldest , G11 is also a HOAT, with Silicate, Borate and Benzoate.
