"New" Ti Additive

I know, I know it's not new! I figured I'd have 10 people telling me this withen 10 minutes, settle down you oil nerds!

I remember reading about it about a year ago, does anyone have any updates on it? Are any blenders employing it? Would it show up on an avg spectro analysis? How does it rack up against ZDP? Has anyone done any research on it? If so do you have some links to any studies?

I think saying Titanium is just a gimick to get you to buy it. I dont think too many people want little bits of metal that are harder than steel poured into their engines.

Conoco-Phillips is using it in their diesel oils.
There's not really much technical info on how it works on their website, though:

From what is there, it sure sounds like actual Ti in the oil add pack.

I remember looking this up and reporting it on BITOG a number of years ago. IIRC, it's a tungsten compound (tungsten disulfide?) EP additive, mich like MoS2. The downside is that it is more corrosive at elevated temperatures than MoS2.

I don't know anything about it other than a few reference via google ..but I did come up with a few new catchy names in case Bruce decided to try it out in any future 0w-10 formulations.

Kendall is pushing their "new" heavy duty diesel oil with Titanium anti-wear compounds pretty heavy right now. They paid for a front page ad in this month's heavy duty trucking magazine...ahh marketing- must resist the hype!
