Why is it that engines run quieter on new spark plugs? I just changed mine and noticed this. The same thing happened when I did my wife's car a month or so back.
BTW, as some of you know, I have a '00 Monte Carlo with the 3.8L. Changing the plugs on that thing is a b----! of the highest order. The plugs all came out of the iron head no problem, but getting to them was a whole 'nother matter. I had to climb on top of the engine to get to the rear plugs. Actually the worst part of the job was getting the old wires off the plugs and routing and installing the new wires. I had to use my Robogrips to pull the boots off. On the #6 plug, I had to use the prybar + the Robogrips. Wow!
The results were worth it, though. Still, my arms now look like I have a self mutilation/cutting fetish. I think GM sure could take a lesson from the Honda Civic. That job took me 20 minutes. Mine took 2+ hours.
Edit, BTW, FWIW: my plugs were all within .003 of spec gap, while my wife's were about .015 over gap.
