I am planning to put new tires on my 97 F-150. To get rid of the empty wheel well look I am considering going from the stock tire size of 235/70 R16 to 255/70 R16 which should help fill in the wheel well some at least. According to the tire size calculator, when my odometer says 60 I will actually be doing 62.3, which I can live with. Will this tire size fit on my stock rims? How would it affect the ride and handling of the truck. I have went from stock size to 225/75 R16 in the past couple of months (tires were freebies) and the truck has ridden like crap since, it rode better with the stock tires and shocks wore out. Thanks for any comments.

The P255/70R16's will fit on your stock 7" wheels.

When the 225/75R16's were put on, what inflation pressure was used - perhaps it iwas set too high. Were these LT225/75R16's?

Both of these would adversely affect the ride.

I think it was an option, the door sticker on my truck gives pressure specs. for both and under beside 255/70R16 it says optional so I always thought these were optional equipment. My odometer will still be off though, but that wont be a problem. MasterAcid, how does your dads truck ride and handle?

Yes the 225/75R16s are LTs. When they were put on the pressure was set at what the sticker on the doorjamb said front-32 psi and rear at 36 psi. I have since tried to inflate the front to 36 to match the rear but than deflated back to normal pressure quickly. The ride is not so bad, livible I guess, but the handling sucks bad.
