I bought a pcv valve the same shape and size as the original in my 4.0 mustang, Standard Motor Products V448 PCV Valve.

Plugs in fine, same shape and size, rattles the same as I shake it with my hand.

I Look it up online and it isn't listed as compatable with my car.

My friend said pcv is just a check valve and it isn't possible to Wire the heated part incorrectly. Is this correct? I cannot afford an oem heated pcv and the original has 230,000 miles although still rattling.

What year is your Mustang?

PCV valves can be vehicle specific and aftermarket parts are often made to be compatible for multiple applications; while it may physically fit, it may not perform as intended.
Exactly, and can cause oil consumption. I only use OE for PCV valves. I recall two times using aftermarket PCV valves in Fords and had oil consumption with both.
