New M3P power numbers?

The 2025 M3P is rated by Tesla at 510 HP. Many have said it would take much more real world HP than that, like closer to 600, to accelerate so fast in this heavy car.
Here are some numbers... Maybe start around the 3:30 mark if you don't like too much intro...

The power, especially off-the-line, is unbelievable. I've owned some pretty torquey Pontiacs and BB Chevys over the years, this is on a completely different level.

The acceleration numbers are very slightly ahead of a stock xDrive M3 comp, which has a stated power of 523 hp and only a bit less weight.
 
The cars today are insane. Have you driven a car with acceleration like this? I doubt 1 in 1000 ever have.
The M3P is a true 10 second car. That's crazy.
Guy bought a 113k mile 1998 auto trans z28 from me back in the day. Used a cam, stall, ET streets and a huuuuge staged shot to run 10.30s@130+. About $15k total including the car (this was mid 2000s, so 1998 wasn't today's 1998). Gas cars are still cheaper to go fast in...but to go fast as a reliable daily? He munched that motor pulling a wheelie on the street due to low oil.

Very few have been in a car this fast - this is 1100 cc street bike speed.

This was how we all got fast with little money - caning the snot out of a leaned on small block never set up for it properly.

I remember trying to make it across town on a 100 degree day in bumper to bumper LA Traffic in rigs like this. Watching the temps rise wondering how far I could push it before everything puked or fried windows down no AC panting like a dog in the sun with the windshield rolled up.
 
At least the M3 and RS3 look the part.
RS3 would still be my choice if it wasn't $70k OTD. What a spectacular car.

As far as the M3P power numbers I'm sure it's by design to underrate just because of the way the power tapers off. At higher speeds it doesn't accelerate like a car with 600hp, but very little can touch it from a dig. It is no slouch for sure.

It accelerates just like a 600hp/4000# car.

EVs tend to lose power at higher speeds compared to gearing advantage in an ICE car. It's far from slow, but loses advantage at higher speed. It doesn't accelerate at 120mph at the same rate as a 600hp ICE vehicle with good gearing.

I know my 1/2 mile time and mph trap in my ev6 GT are the same as a Urus Performente, so I just presumed the m3p was fine, too.

The RS3 can without much effort be and 8 second car with a stock block, one has run 7 sec but like an ev what is the point unless you just want to drag race the thing.

All the Teslas drop off some in acceleration after around 80mph compared to similarly powered ICE vehicles, though the new M3P is the best yet for that apparently.

I don't think there's a question that Hyundai/Kia does a better job of delivering on performance metrics on their faster EVs. EV6 GT and Ioniq 5N is a great example of this. The Tesla performance models are obviously not slow, but they strike me as the speed being a byproduct of other decisions made. Then again I think that explains the price difference from the M3P and the Ioniq 5N.

I think it's possible the Ioniq 5N could best the M3P on the 0-60 blast, but they seemed more concerned with the overall driver experience than just hitting metrics. Tesla throws all the power available at the acceleration run and does a good job of managing traction for a small number getting to 60, but that's why it runs weaker above that. It's not a question that the battery temperature management is better handled whether it is restraint or cooling with the 5N, though I think it is a hint of both and Misha Charoudin's video on the two cars is very telling for both cars.

I've never been a big fan of Hyundai or KIA, but the results speak for themselves. I had a coworker ask about buying a Jetta GLI and I guided him towards the Hyundai Elantra N. They do a better job at the dramatics for the price point. I don't think anyone is beating the GTI for a proper traditional hatch, but for a small FWD performance sedan I just don't think the VW bests the Elantra N.
