New lakespeed test!!! Havoline 10W-30 Conventional VS Supertech 10W-30 Full Synthetic

That's alot of enthusiasm with the exclamation points OP. LSJ is all over the map switching topics and random side notes that it takes a flowchart to keep track of what he is saying. What was presented could have taken 5 mins vs 31. He needs an editor.
I agree. I like what he does, but it is very scattered.

OK now I can have honest and legitimate questions and critique.

1) Why does he say "wear" all the time? I mean the numbers are so low, they are really nothing. Which is GREAT. I think he just uses the term generically, as do any and all reports. The comparison says one is a gain, meh. We cannot say this, it MAY be statistically significant or it may not. This test does not prove this.

2) Lower temps with synthetic oil.

3) More power with synthetic oil.

4) What are the actual coatings on his rings? I am really intrigued. He said the Si (up?) shows in the UOA from rings , but not elsewhere in the engine. What metal(s)? Ti? I think he said Ti.

5) He still has too much non value added filler in his video, but I am willing to accept that's a personal dislike. Yacking and referencing other videos.

6) He works well with his guy at the start, so I am human.

7) Amsoil, HPL and others have a good thing. They, yes are blenders, but have extensive testing ability. Not that he proved or mentioned this, but it's a takeaway - yet he does prove you don't have to have such a facility. Also he mentions SWRI. Amsoil uses them as well for 3rd party.

8) I Love love love his "application dictates chemistry". I have been there since 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9) Nails it on racing oils and not using them in your daily. People ask me this all the time, I having been saying the same for years.

10) Yes I do pay a sponsor fee here.

Shouldn't be a dilemma at all. If you can purchase the name brand cheaper than the store brand, those are excellent values.
Not cheaper but I always bought m1 because I could get it almost as cheap as super tech or similar. It doesn't mean they aren't also good oils.

If anything the video reaffirms for me that recommending conventional oils for older flat tappet engines seems baseless. I will continue to use a full synthetic in my 48 year old Oldsmobile V8.

The whole reason he made the video was because some people were curious about how apples compared to oranges.
I understand and that actually was a good video topic. I was surprised he didn't compare regular Pennzoil yellow bottle against Pennzoil Platinum but then It may be because PYB is more a semi syn today. It is harder to find full conventionals anymore because they usually cannot meet the current specs without atleast some syn in them.

Sorry for the sideways drift, but how would VR1 do in something like a UJM motorcycle from 1981, where the change interval is a short 2-3k?

Now post the resume/credentials of @cptbarkey who called this guy "trash" and has a issue with !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Why? Move on dude. Enjoy my opinion(s) 😉

I would buy any of these oils for the right price. If you want to worship LSJ go right ahead. 🤷

Open. Cheers.

Thanks Astro14!!

And lets all all knowledge that we are GIFTED to have both BITGO and folks like Lakespeed "Spread the word" on engine oil !!! Many oil youtubers have paid sponsors and biased testing/advertising. I don't really see that with LSJ ???

One thing we can all agree is spreading more accurate and scientific "Education" regarding technical oil information to the general public !!! Oil, filters, coolant, transmission fluid.....etc. Personally, I have lost count how many customers have knocked down and passed on my inventory of Pennzoil platinum cause of the old paraffin wax "build up it'll destroy my engine" debacle from decades ago!!!! We all know how GREAT Pennzoil Platinum and ultra platinum are but need more "LSJ's" and sources like BITGO to spread the word on accurate results and testing to the general public !!!

But hey my V8 fleet wouldn't mind the Pennzoil platinum 10W30 so its a win for me either way ;) lol
