I agree here...if there is sludge in the engine, releasing it all quickly could block oil pickup or galleries. A slow cleaning IMHO is better.

After 2-3 more oil changes that way, I'd be comfortable extending a bit with a used oil analysis.
 
Well I have 155000 on the Tahoe now.I have changed the oil 4 times in 11000 miles and have no noticeable abouts of sludge in filter or globs coming out.Switched to Mobil 1 High Mileage and will do a 4000 mile run the due a used oil analysis to determine if I will begin to do changes per the oil life meter.
Of note though the mileage has gone up from 13.5 to 13.9 on my watch.....And the previous guy
didnt tow at all with it
