New fuel filter won't flow gas?

Picked this up for my generator. Put it on a couple years ago but never ran the engine .

Needed to use the generator last night and it would not start.

The filter will not allow gas to pass but I can blow through it. Odd and frustrating.

It's for gravity feed small engines too.

Frustrating evening for sure. I didn't have a way to connect the rubber hoses without the filter so I had to poke a hole through it.

You should have used the red filter. It’s 150 microns and it’s for gravity fed. The white filters are 75 microns and they are usually used with a fuel pump.

Here is a video explaining it.

Edit- on further inspection that’s a Honda GX200 clone engine. The fuel filter is located in the bottom of the fuel tank before the fuel petcock, so you have two fuel filters. Lose the Briggs style filter, replace the fuel line to the petcock with a new fuel line. No need for two fuel filters. You can watch videos on changing the fuel filter on the GX200 if you want to learn how to swap it. The entire petcock and fuel filter assembly is less than $10 if you want to swap it out.

Ya I never trusted the one in the tank. I have had those fall out.

I actually took that off to see. I had to refrain myself from blowing into the tank by mouth lol
Why? Sometimes a bit of positive pressure is all that is needed to get fuel flowing. On fuel pump equipped engines it makes starting much easier after running out of fuel or sitting for a long time.
