Tony - Thanks for deleting the previous nonsense!
As far as the GF-4, Drive Clean 5W-30 MSDS sheet, I think the main issue is the CAS 64741-88-4 solvent refined designation.
I do not think the disclosure of a solvent refining process leads to any determination of the final VI index of the base oil.
BTW, I called the Mobil tech line and the new product data sheets are still not available for the SM/GF-4 oils.
The MSDS for Mobil Drive Clean 5W-30 can be found at Mobil's MSDS locator . Enter USA for the country and 482463-00 for the product code.
I'm paraphrasing, but Carpy's focus for the GF-4 dino version hasn't been so much on the process of how the oil is refined/produced, it's been on the promise of greatly improved performance over the GF-3 formulations for all GF-4 dinos. With stats like:
- Flash Point [Method]: 220°C (428°F) [ ASTM D-92]- Viscosity 62 cSt (62 mm²/sec ) at 40 °C | 10.6 cSt (10.6 mm²/sec) at 100°C and
- Pour Point: -42°C (-44°F)
rivaling some GF-3 syn blend numbers, Carpy's predictions seem encouraging.
