Bought a Carlson 16134 set 2004 HONDA INSIGHT 995cc L3 ELECTRIC/GAS Caliper Slide Pin Boot / Bushing | RockAuto and can't get the lip of the boot into the groove of the caliper bracket after going at it for 20 minutes. As soon as you think it's fully seated, the other side pops out of the groove. Anybody have a trick to get them in?
New caliper pin boots won't go into the groove.

clean groove and some rubber grease

Make sure the bushing is nice and warm and flexible. If the caliper is off the car, secure it in a vise. Ask a helper to push down on the opposite side to hold it in place.
Not a bushing but a rubber boot.

Sorry, I meant boot. Can you pinch it into a "U" shape and push it in?
Since it's aftermarket, it is also possible it just doesn't fit.
You can run without a boot temporarily if you need to get on the road. Use plenty of brake grease on the pin and order OEM boot or an aftermarket loaded caliper.

some grease on the bottom part of the boot (in the picture) and it'll go right in, squeeze a bit put the 6 o'clock in, twist while pushing and in it goes.
Pull it through with needle nose.
Yes aftermarket junk. Only available OEM in a $40 caliper kit. Forget this. Greased the pin real good and put it back together without having it in the grove. The boot is tight against the caliper bracket so nothing getting inside anyway.
I had the same problem with aftermarket pin boots from either CarQuest or Napa (can't recall which) years ago for my 2007 Honda Odyssey. Wound up going to the dealer parts counter for them. Back in the good'ol cheap days...
"Exact fit" is what you want, "alternative fit" is what you got.
