Look like GF-4 took it's toll on Amsoil's XL line. So much like Mobil 1, it's clearly weakening the synthetic line but improving the dino/blend line.

HT/HS - 2.7
TBN -9
Noak - 10.7

They also changed the method of the Noak testing. Tooslick made a good point in that when you drop the Ca, which is what they did for Mobil 1 GF-4, Amsoil, GC etc, it lowers the TBN. Still good oils, but the specs have dropped much like M1 GF-4.

When did they weaken the synthetic line, I wasn't even aware anything has changed with Amsoil synthetics. They are still SL grade all around. What changed?

Oils are always changing. Reductions in Zinc and Phosphorus levels, two tried and true anti-wear additives, are being replaced. With that comes more expensive oils, however, it's hurting the synthetics to some extent. You'll now notice two Mobil 1's, a first ever, and you'll also see that the 5w-20 XL Amsoil has been weakend or downgraded from before. Both Amsoil Series 2000 and German Castrol have dropped the Ca levels in half and increased the Mg alot.
