I bought a new husky quiet air compressor as my current air compressor is very old and im afraid of it blowing up after watching youtube. Anyway i was inspecting my compressor and all the welds look good except for this one weld where the hose hangs. There is one spot with undercut and im concerned about it being a weak point or maybe its no big deal. What do you think?

No it is not. There is no plaque. Its just a generic chinese made home depot air compressor

In my youth I sold air compressors for an industrial supply company. The owner of the business wouldn't have anything to do with non-ASME certified tanks. He thought they were flat out dangerous.

That does not look like a deep penetration weld, not pretty for sure but probably nothing that would cause a blow out. Go look at the other ones and swap it if you find one that is cleaner if it makes you feel better.
The issue is it’s a discontinued model from Home Depot so there are none available. Also each unit is boxed up so you can’t see it unless you open the box in the store.
Are you sure it's not an ASME tank? The nameplates can be difficult to find sometimes.
That looks like a deep crater, I would swap it out, and look over the new one before bring the new one back. Those small cheap tanks are not that thick.
All ASME tanks have the 1.5 to 2 inch threaded inspection ports.
Not concerned about the hose hanger but it’s welded right to the tank wall and I’m concerned about the tank wall thickness at that crater
Clean it off, drain the tank and hit it with a mig. Looks like it just needs a "Tack" to fill that "crater," as you are worried about it. That would bother me too, especially if I have the ability to fix it. In theory, that crater **could** potentially be a 1/3 of the thickness of the tank material.
Why in the world would they weld a hose hanger to the tank? That's just dumb when the could have attached it to the top mounting plate and hung down. What if you were a gorilla and slammed things against that hanger? I'd be more worried of an impact that could crack those welds and further damage the tank. Just under static load, I don't think you'll have a problem.
It was probably welded by some 8 year old chinese kid.
I run them till they rust out.
After something major breaks or if they make it more than 10 years I'll test them apart and have the tank hydrostatic tested.
All my air compressors came from the junk yard or auctions.
One was a brand-new tank that I bought at auction for $10, that had everything stripped off it.
All the other ones got tore down, tanks got tested and rebuilt.
My probably 35 year old speedy air rused out last year. I took it to the hydrostatic testers in 2020. They testes it to 250psi.
Was never worried about it blowing up.
So I am looking for a tank still.....

The ends of the tank are clearly sub-arc welded (as is typical) and likely not an issue at all, but those handled welds are flux core wire feed that is unacceptable in undercut and poor fusion.
Return it. It is defective. Not only is there that crater, but the rest of the beads have very cold toes.
Is it not a bit suspicious that Husky is selling an entire compressor for under $400 when just a high quality ASME air tank in that size is $550 from McMaster?

I still find it strange in the 2020's and even back in the 70's, that when there has been some very quality paints and coatings that for years have been used inside industrial gear boxes, engines, and many other such things, being constantly exposed to all sorts of chemicals etc. yet not one air compressor tank is, and being only exposed steel so it can rust out and be very dangerous. Now why is that? Is it to sell more aircompressors and who gives a rip how dangerous or not the rusted tank is? Gosh even tin can's that hold beans have been plastic coated to prevent rust, so really what gives? Makes this whole aircompressor tank deal a huge joke, yeah on us consumers, shop owners or? That purchase them. Its the one thing that should be designed and properly protective coated with extreme care, why is it not?
I'm sure most of us would be happy to have such and pay more, with say a 100 year rust out guarantee.
I feel all manufactures of a pressure vessel of any sort should have to have major liability insurance for them. I'd hate to deal with side of a garage or shop destroyed by an air tank.
