Yep, the new 2007 MY Acuras equipped with a manual transmission are now factory filled with "Precision Crafted" MTF.

Improvements over the previous Honda MTF include improved shifting (especially under freezing conditions), better friction reduction for improved fuel efficiency, and longer transmission life.

It is designed to be backwards compatible with all older models.

P/N: 08798-9031A

Will post more info such as cost when I find out.

I wonder if it is formulated to specificly address the syncro grind problems in the 6-sp. That would take a thinner, 6cSt GM Syncromesh-like fluid.

GM Synchromesh is almost 10cst. There are people running Redline MTL and Specialty Formulations MTL-P which both have near identical viscosity to the OEM fluid, with good results in correcting the synchro grind problems.

Almost sounds like they have a new supplier/formulation of synthetic MTF.

It could be a tad lower vis than MTL (for example) because all the reports on Amsoil MTF in Acura's are near perfection. Which is 9.6 cSt.

Critic - I assume you are quoting Honda? Then it does sound like a lower vis, at the very least.

Nope, I was just summarizing.

I think they made a more friction modified fluid with upgraded base oils to improve cold temperature performance.

Care to spend the $$$ for a VOA?

Why would you assume "more friction modified"? It may very well have such behavior due to different base oils and AW/EP adds, but do you think the fluid mfr specifically added a new or more FM? (I assume the "better friction reduction" is/isn't a quote?)

I have no money for a VOA on this stuff.

Guess in my mind, friction modification (more) equates to friction reduction, but I guess more friction modified is a fairly broad term. Like you said, it can be from a variety of things...the term "more friction modified." But I could be wrong.

In case you haven’t heard yet, Acura Precision
Crafted MTF has been improved. It offers better
overall shift quality in cold weather (especially in
freezing temperatures), and it’s got better friction
reduction for improved fuel economy and longer
transmission service life.
This new MTF (P/N 08798-9031A) is the factoryfill
on all ’07 M/T-equipped Acura models, and it’s
backward compatible with older models. It comes
in a 1-quart bottle that wears a new label and a
white cap. Here’s what it looks like:

Critic- Do you know if Acura uses carbon fiber synchro's in their manual trannies? If so, I wouldn't mind trying this stuff in my 2004 S2000 on my next fill. Right now I'm using GM synchromesh FM. For me it works better than Honda MTF, but only lasts for 7-10K miles.

Someone told me that the S2000's MT does contain carbon fiber components, but I do not know if such is the case with all Honda/Acura MTs. Also, I have not made an effort to confirm the presence of carbon fiber components in the S2000's MT with official sources.

Don't confuse friction modification with friction reduction. A VOA would be interesting.

I wonder they went thinner, or if they kept the hot visc while using basestocks that provide better cold/warm performance. But, a movement up the basestock ladder usually leads to stouter and thinner fluids.

Starting with MY 04 and newer (AP2) the S2000 has carbon fiber synchros, so compatabilty is an issue for me.

The fluid is marketed to be backwards compatible for all Honda MTF applications...
