Following the death of Red Bull marketing billionaire/ tycoon Dietrich Mateschitz, who just died at age 78 and claimed to drink 10 red bulls per day, it made me wonder, how many BITOGERs have never once had an energy drink?

I am in my late 50's and have never once had an energy drink. There have been times over the past 30 years where I worked very long hours, with little rest before staring up again. But I never looked at an energy drink as a solution to fatigue. Maybe I am missing something? My wild speculation is energy drinks are just caffeine and sugar, and some hocus pocus stuff mixed in that may/ may not provide any benefits. But I could well be wrong. I see people drink energy drinks all the time.

For record- I can easily drink three plus pots of coffee in a day.

Three: first, last, and never again (couldn’t finish one, yuk) …

I've never had one ... and if you drink that much coffee, you don't need one.

I don't drink coffee, so my caffiene comes from an ocassional zero sugar monster or a coke zero or sugar free tea. I don't 'rely' on them daily, maybe one a week as far as an energy drink goes.

Although the new Monster Peach is pretty tasty.

Had a few sips of one in the mid 2000's.
Gave me a terrible headache and tasted awful. Never had one since.

For my caffiene fix, I'll usually have a single cup of tea with full fat milk during the weekdays.
The rest is water.

I have a female coworker who at 8:30am religiously visits the local 7/11 before coming into the office.
She'll purchase and consume two large cans of the Monster "Java Monster" before 11am.

I think I had a Red Bull and vodka at a bar in college, certainly nothing recently. Coffee with creamer and a drop of stevia is my go to drink in the morning.

Those tea-based energy drinks are pretty good without excess sweetness (from sugar or artificial sweeteners) or that tangy aftertaste. I've been enjoying those V8 +Energy drinks lately since picking up a pack at Wal-Mart and that's its downside - inability to quickly grab from a gas station or convenience store.

The closest I ever got to drinking an energy drink was when my wife bought a RedBull for me and brought it when we went to the hospital for the birth of one of our kids. I guess she wanted me to be awake for her the whole time. I never drank it.

Espresso is my energy drink of choice.

I've never had one, I'm not a huge fan of sweet drinks, though I do like rootbeer if I have to drink a soft drink.

I've also cut back on my caffein since my heart surgery, I make the pot about 1/2 as strong as normal and only make myself 6 cups (~3 mugs), and that's it for the day.

never drank one single energy drink. stopped drinking coffee and caffeine consumption 20 years ago. i drink only water. i know people close to me that died from consuming too much of this stuff. the guy litteraly died at the steering wheel of his peterbilt in texas.

I’ve enjoyed coffee for over 50 years. About 7 or 8 years ago I got on a Red Bull kick. I’d drink a small can of the original stuff about 4 or 5 times per week. I did this as an afternoon pickup. But after several months I began having cardiac arrhythmias. I saw medical specialists, had complete blood tests, etc. After stopping drinking Red Bull my symptoms stopped. I always suspected the taurine component caused my problems.

I don’t trust any of the energy drinks.

Due to severe health issues, and mitochondrial dysfunction, I rely on energy supplements. Red Bull will work to some extent, in a pinch. In my case, they are a lifesaver. Muscles become so fatigued they fail to work. This can include the heart muscle, and if allowed to progress, can be fatal. This is in fact how people that have what I have die, and autopsies often show no direct cause other than issues on the cellular level. I've had a few close calls. I tend to get good results from Amin.o Energy, which can generally keep me functional for the day.

One thing that has become clear, these products don't lose much effectiveness over time. They seem to continue to work.

I don't really care for Red Bull, but it does help. Even in it's sugar free form.

I drink one almost every morning with my favorite being the white sugar free Monster. I was a big fan of the NOS sugar free drink until they discontinued it.

Never tried one come to think of it. Possibly I should try one?

Probably a pot of coffee a day for me is not uncommon - hard to tell since I often pour one then get distracted and it goes cold so I toss it and start over. I drink it black so other than my socially acceptable drug of choice - caffeine - it shouldn't be too bad for me.
