I'm getting the supplies to do another oil change on my friends '08 Rav4 with the 2.4L. Going to get the Castrol Edge deal at Advance auto this month. Problem is I don't know which filter to get. Advance has these numbers when I do the search under this car: KN204 - KN138 - KN203 - KN171C - KN170C I have no idea which one to get, any suggesstions?

Doesn't look like any of those numbers. K&N HP-1003 is the one they recommend on their application search, or PS-1003 if you don't want the wrench off feature.

Thanks, I feel like an idiot. Didn't see it had a direct replacement link in black at the top that took me to that filter. For some reason it gave me all those other ones and didn't give the correct filter right away like it usually did all the other times. Sorry about that, thanks for the quick reply

I use the KN171C on my motorcycle. I think that one, and the 170C are both spec'd for motorcycles. Maybe cars, too. I'm not sure. The "C" represents being a chrome filter.

Why not?
IIRC, there was a thread recently about the new PS oil filter line-up from K&N . The point I came away with was that it was poor at filtration. So, why not just get an entry level filter(like a Purolator Classic or AC Delco*=non e-core)? If you were considering a K&N for filtration or high-quality, don't get their PS filters. Get HP-1003.
