Navy F/A-18s shot down in friendly-fire incident

Friend was a USAF C130 pilot for GWI. Asked him how blue planes could get shot down given IFF systems.

“If you aren’t part of the solution,” he replied, “You’re part of the problem.”

the one about the darkening windows on planes was also not behind a paywall for me. like this one.
I think it’s because I spend so much time reviewing linked articles that I “have exceeded the limit of free views” on a variety of sites.

But I’m about to close this thread, as nobody has provided any meaningful information, and now it’s turning into a discussion about what I can see.

At what level?
At what level?

What’s the question?

Who made the shot decision?

Nobody has even posted the unit surface combatant involved.

What flight level were the Hornets flying? Is that the question?

Was that in the article?

The original title of my post, I think was:

"Change of Command Coming?" Or close to that. With the news link shown.

That title and text was deemed to be too brief and was not only changed but censored by staff with PM sent.

So the "A what level" lost all meaning.

It meant at what level would the change of command be. See post #7 above.

I realize this is a sensitive subject.

I am part of a very large family of military active and veteran from E-2 to O-7.

Does this help?
"The guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18, which was flying off the USS Harry S. Truman," Central Command said in a statement.

I found it on AP. There isn’t enough detail to speculate on cause, or consequences.

First reports are always wrong in some way….so, I’ll hold off on commentary.
Your point is well taken. This will take time to sort out.

But from the original link shown:

"The guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18," Central Command said in a statement.

Other news reports may or may not show that info.

I get the same "to many too many free views" BS from NYT, WP, WSJ, etc. No way will I pay for news content.......... from daily news. Other sources are worth paying for.

The Fox News website doesn’t have a paywall though. The website does have live streaming options for cable/satellite subscribers and a subscription for Fox Nation. But all their articles and video clips are free to everyone.
