NASTY baked-on bumpy fried sludge, considering MMO

i wish i could take picture. does not bother mee to much but it is there, fill hole looks like bacon sludge

engine runs fine and i topped it up with some High Mileage oil and stp for the zddp, this is the84 camaro 2.8 V6 and it runs -well- i got it to run

I was thinking of adding MMO, either half a quart or a full quart to te oil in there, 500 miles or 100 miles, oil level is now full, then oil change, then maybe repeating, because it runs so well.. bit then again, it runs very well so maybe i dont need any mmo in there ?

I could post a pic but cant i dont have a way to show you how it looks, it feels strong engine and its oil level is now full it was down a quart, what would you all do here please

is mmo something that could wreck my car or are there any benefits, im a little timid

If the sludge gets dislodged, it may end up somewhere you don't like.

I was thinking of letting this oil change i added the STP for its ZDDP to go for "another few hundred miles or a few months" and giving it a nice fresh change with a High Mileage oil. no mmo needed it seems the oil will do just fine, nice short 2000 or 300 mile oci, prolly 3000 miles yes ? (gradual cleaning and High Mileageles oil action, best thing, yes)

If you feel so inclined, the $25 solution is 1qt MMO + 1gal Rotella T5 10w30 semi-syn @ Walmart plus any decent oil filter. I'd run that for an abreviated interval...say 1500-2000 miles and then change it and revert to normal oil change intervals with any decent oil. I happen to like Rotella T5, but Pennzoil Conventional is a little cheaper and seems to enjoy a good rep.

I wouldn't waste a dime on STP. The amount of ZDDP is negligible, especially when you dilute it with 5qts of oil.

MMO is awesome!! run it but it sounds like you need to change the often until all the sludge is gone. i would go with Pennzoil Conventional or Rotella T6 5w40 with one qt of MMO. it will not break stuff up too quick and take out your engine. PU and PP are good choices as well with mmo. do a few short ocis with mmo to get it clean.

have you thought about kreen?? it works very well!

I am thinking this is a car that is not driven much, check The PCV valve and take it on some long drives, short trips are what is causing your problems, also check your thermostat.

I'm with the long drives and short initial OCI.
Check the PCV first.
Then just take it up on the highway and go someplace.

I also agree with abandoning the STP. There really isn't that much ZDDP in it anymore. It is just a thickener, and a questionable one at that.

I recently used MMO for a little cleaning (1k), not harsh, just gentle. I noticed on my recent oil change (last week), the oil was darker than normal on 4k OCIs. It wasn't a dark black, just darker than normal. I only used 16oz instead of a quart, and for 1k.
I'll probably now use the MMO for the last 500 miles before the oil change for maintaining a little varnish control. Have 130K+ on the motor and I'm just working on some varnish.

MMO is great cleaning! I always use it. Been using it for years, never any issues related to its use at all. Unless you call a clean and solid operating engine an issue.
Use an entire quart for the first few oil changes. Make sure you use it the entire OCI. Thats where it works best.

While several short OCIs with a quality oil might help, as discussed in lots of threads, it is not going to clean as well as a product designed to clean an engine. I'd run a pint of MMO for the last 1000-1500 miles of the current OCI. Drain the oil subtract 1 qt of oil and substitute 1 qt of MMO. It will do a much better job cleaning than oil alone will. Shorten that OCI to 3000 miles repeat if necessary. MMO does a very good job of slow cleaning and disolves sludge very well.

nothing less than a full quart of MMO will do. Even if it's a tad over the FULL mark. And run it for at least 2K miles

Stick with 3k OCIs and a GF5/SN oil.

Make sure everything with the engine is working properly...good state of tune. PCV is a start and new thermostat to get engine up to temp and keep it at correct temp is important.

Always top off oil as needed to prevent high oil temps sludge creation.

MMO or Rislone will work great without nuking the beer/cigarette budget. Add it at the beginning of your OCI. Start with 8 ounces for the 1st 3k OCI. 16oz for the 2nd OCI , and the full quart for the 3rd.

Anytime you feel ambitious, buy some valve cover gaskets, pull them and do some manual cleaning.
