I've narrowed it down to 4 oils to use after I do an auto-rx treatment on my Ford Bronco II 2.9L V6 with 45k. I hope you oil experts can help me pick one. Here are the finalist Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 10W-30, Mobil 1 10W-30 EP summer 5W-30 winter, Mobil 1 T&SUV 5W-40, or Quaker State Full Synthetic. I really want to use one of these year round. The climate I'm in usually never gets below 10 degress in the winter but can get up to 110 degress in the summer. Which oil do you like? Any other suggestions?

While none of those are what I would use, of the oils you listed the ONLY ones I would use are the Mobils.

Nice ride!

From your list, the M1 10W-30 EP and the Maxlife 10W-30 Grp III synthetic, probably have the highest AW adds to provide protection for the valvetrain of your Bronco II, which started out on the SF or SG oils of the 1980's.

My opinion, but M1 5W-40 TSUV seems high, viscosity wise, for a 2.9L V6.

Unless we have new info, the QS synthetic is probably still a Grp III synthetic and the add pack will reflect current GF-4/SM levels.

The Maxlife Synthetic is my choice. Nice add pack including 290 ppm moly and thicker (11.5 cSt) than the average 10w30 (10.5 cSt). Also,

TBN: 10
NOACK: 8.31%
Zinc: 1000 ppm
Phos: 920 ppm
Calcuim: 3870 ppm

Maxlife Synthetic 10w30 is good year round for your climate.

Maxlife synthetic would be my choice.. I like and use Mobil 1 but I think the maxlife syn may be a notch better, I believe the additive package is outstanding and it runs well in my wifes 1 year old Mitsubishi motor that gets some severe use as a realtors car. The quaker state may be an impressive oil as well...not enough data to confirm.

Blue 99 Quaker State/Pennzoil Synthetic's are made from actually a new syn called EOP. I forget what is stands for but it is supposed to very simular to PAO in performance. Better than group III.

The Virgin board has an analysis on the Pennzoil Platinum. I'm not too impressed like I am with the new Quaker State Truck/SUV 4X4 Syn-Blend shown in thread just under the Platinum. The new "Q" syn-blend is showing some real nice numbers. I'm also not impressed with the SM Pennzoil 5W-30 dinos. Inconsistent data means quality control problems there. That's not good!

Triple, as usual, you seem to be bouncing off the walls, a bit, with your comments.

What are you seeing that generates this statement regarding quality control?

I actually believe that Pennzoil has one of the strongest quality programs among the major brands!
