My oil analysis came back...not good

I had an analysis done for my '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm using Mobil 1 5W-30 and I sent the analysis in when the oil had only 3k miles on it. According to Blackstone Labs, my oil shows typical wear metals for an oil with 5,500 miles on it

. They also noted the lead from bearings was higher than it should be. That might be from my "lead" foot though

. TBN came back at 5.9.

I was planning on extending the OCI to 6k miles but now after seeing the report I'm going to change it now. I'm debating wether or not to even bother with Mobil 1 if I'm going to have to change every 3k miles anyway. I might just go back to dino.

I'm still surprised at the results. I would have thought my oil would have been mostly fine after only 3k miles, especially using Mobil 1.

PS, I have the report as a pdf. file, but am unsure how to remove my name, address, and phone number from it, so I didn't post it.

Please post your analysis in the UOA section. (down below) If you don't have a space to host your .pdf file just type the numbers in Excel, copy and paste in code.......

Have you ran an analysis to see how dino holds up at 3000?? If mobile 1 is doing bad at 5000 dino may still NOT be the way to go

Deep, do it the lazy low tech way like I did. Just copy someone else's Blackstone UOA from the UOA section and edit it to fit your numbers and vehicle.
Here's one of mine so you won't have to guess which is a Blackstone. Blackstone UOA for you copying and editing pleasure

If this is the case, they have no reason to alarm you.

Good point there 427 if indeed that's the case

Some food for thought for the Honda V-6 owners while I'm here .

When using a engine oil with unusually strong chemistry vs a plain dino or a fuel additive thats pretty stout certain components inside the engine might leach copper more than usual and cause a spike .

One of the parts might be the main bearing caps which are copper-steel forged powder metal which is relatively new compared to GM's Steel/Iron PM connecting rod material .

Now that is some might be's .

A for sure be will be if your 1999 and up GM engine uses the copper-steel forged powder metal lower timing chain sprocket with an exception . Instead or rather to include possible leaching for certain I believe you will see this is a source of wear metal copper in analysis .

Defining which engine series uses what is key to unraveling some of these mysteries we see here .

Hope this helps .

BTW to the Ford Modular owners . They are using the copper-steel forged powder metal in a very strange place . To identify that particular component could be of help in the future .

I'll post it eventually but for now will let the human brain do what keeps most of us busy here and that is learning through researching . This usually leads to yet another new area of excitement , suspense and intrigue LOL

Dodge 4.7 owners:

Don't let where that new Copper PM material used in yet a different component of the Dodge 4.7 go unforgotten either

What kind of a filter?

In Acrobat, go to the tool bar at the top, and click on the "T", it stands for text. Next, select what you want to post, maybe use ''Select all'' under edit.
Then copy the selected text, and paste in into wherever you want it.

Good.

What's this about? Are you discouraging people from sharing UOA data? Maybe this is just my perception, and please correct me if that's the case, but I don't see anything that warrants this type of statement.

labman ..care to do that in 000 plebe version of this. You appear to be saying that a PDF file CAN be "taped and paste(d)" to a reply post WITHOUT having it linked to a host site. The "code" is nebulous in context, typically referring to "url" and whatnot bracketed.

Let's, for a moment, assume that someone is "text challenged" and can't figure out what in the heck this means.

Can you give me a "Okay ..you copy your PDF using the "T" button and you place these brackets on either side of the "paste"??

Otherwise ...this dog just won't come home for me.

(memories of my first 486SX25 when looking up "increasing available memory: Set the noems switch to zero in your autoexec batch file. What the heck is a noems switch and how does one set it to zero ??-no further discussion in the manual)
