I’ve always wanted a Tacoma. It’s been a long time coming, but here it is. 😀

Congrats and nice truck! I had an 09 Access Cab TRD OR 4WD that was my first Tacoma. Loved that truck alot! I didn't keep it long as needs changed and needed a full 4 doors and bought a 3rd gen. I miss the 4.0L in certain cases; it wasn't the fastest thing, but had some grunt to it. I always ran whatever 5w30 Synthetic was on sale and a Hastings LF589 filter.

Congratulations! My 2007 PreRunner TRDOR has been the most reliable vehicle I’ve owned.

Any plans for maintenance yet?

Upgrades?
I have no plans for upgrades. But I am buying some accessories for the interior like floor mats, cup holders and a Bed mat. All the fluids look good and full besides the power steering fluid. It’s at the cold fill line even when hot. No leaks, but it’s definitely low. From what I read, I can use Dexron II-III from the manual. Frame is clean and body is great. 1 owner and only 31,000 miles to boot. I’m thinking it was a snowbird vehicle.

Man! That's low miles.

You'll enjoy doing what little maintenance it requires.

Check into the Oedro all-weather floor mats. Just got a set of them for the wife's 4Runner and we really like them.

As far as the power steering, mine's almost 14 years old with 237K and hasn't leaked yet. I have sucked out what was in the reservoir and replaced a couple of times. Need to do that again, in fact.

I did a full trans fluid swap twice - at 100K, then again at 200K, along with diff. Used Toyota WS in the trans and M1 in the diff. It's worked great. No issues.

Replaced coolant once. About to do it again.

I believe I'm on my 3rd or 4th set of plugs.

I've had to replace driveshaft u-joints twice (both times only one bearing was bad, but I elected to replace all while I had it out). First time I used non-greasable Duralast Gold from Auto Zone. This last time I used OEM Spicer greasable. If yours is 4x4, it came with greasable.

Replaced all wheel bearings (I drive fast).

Serpentine belt and idler pulley.

I'm on the 4th battery including the OEM (Tennessee heat).

I believe I'm on my 4th set of tires including OEM.

3rd set of rotors/pads.

2nd set of shoes.

Suspension's all original, but obviously shocks need to be replaced at this point. I have heard that 2016+ suspension is better and is a direct bolt-on, and may even add a little bit of ride height. I'm looking for someone who's upgrading theirs and wants to sell their stock stuff. If I can't find that I may just go with some Bilstein aftermarket stuff.

The cruise control stalk is going bad on me - cruise doesn't like to work when it's cold outside. Need to replace that. From a little research, it's a pretty easy replacement.

All underhood components original, like I said, except the belt, idler pulley, battery, plugs, and filters.

And that's about it!

Clearcoat on roof has failed and needs to be completely sanded off and repainted. Suggest keeping a good coat of wax on it for protection. I thought I did pretty well on that front, but it's been parked outside for the last 8 years, and the sun has taken its toll (mine's black). And, of course, a lot of people have been nice enough to open their car doors into it in parking lots, rub against it with their bumpers, etc. But hey, it's a daily driver.

M1-EP 5W-30 or 10W-30 every 1 year or 10,000 miles. About to do an oil change this month - last it was changed was last May. Planning on doing a UOA this time. It's been a while. Curious what it's looking like in there. Even after a year and about 9000 miles, the level's only gone down by about a quarter inch on the dipstick.

Engine runs really, really strong.

That’s some good info to know. I picked up M1 EP 5w30 and a M1 filter for it. Just haven’t gotten around to do it yet. It drives so smooth and the engine just hums away. But I guess with 31k I shouldn’t be surprised.

Just a little FYI, the 040 Super White is single stage, no clearcoat. Can be a total bear to keep shiny and protected. I think I had 6-8 hours polishing out mine as it was so faded. Toyota is still doing this; this is why I'm lucky to have a garage to keep it in when not in use.

Good info to know. I’ll definitely keep the outside and inside as clean as possible.

Buy a lottery ticket. Those kind never are around here. Between the service staff, sales staff, and managers nothing like that makes it out to the lot. Maybe no one had the money at the time. What kind of oil filter is on it? If Toyota maybe it was dealer serviced.

my 2011 has 140k and has needed a new steering rack due to a leak, new LCA to replace a LBJ, 3 sets of leaf springs, a new drive shaft, All idler pulleys, a driver side caliper, both valve cover gaskets, spiral cable, two speakers, 3 door lock actuators, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Paint on the hood is trashed and peeling.

Otherwise normal maintenance including diffs/trans/coolant/brake fluid/PS, plugs, belt, etc. I’ve been religious about maintenance - very frustrating.

The 4.0L requires spark plug change every 30K. Denso or NGK coppers...fairly cheap at the dealer. You could push it. I bought my 15 at 29K. Didn’t realize the plugs were not changed. At 60K I changed them. A dead giveaway you’ll have denso plugs on one side and NGK on the other. They come that way from the manufacture.
