Realised that in all this time, haven't posted the charts from my Nissan owner's manual.

This for the Diesel Engine. Mine's a "ZD30", but this chart is nominated for TD27, OD32, and YD25 engines as well...nearly every OCI has been a 0W, 5W40, current brew at the light end of 40 with a target HTHS of 3.5...next time Edge 5W30 A3/B4.

This for the petrol engines. KA24, VG30, and VG33 engines.

This for the gear lube recommendations.

Tranny case is draining at present to get 74W90 put back.

Strangely on the previous vehicle specifics page, it specifies 75W85 GL4 only for the gearbox (what I'm running, but box is getting to over 105C on a run), and SAE140 with LSD for the diff (Currently got 75W140 RP in it).

If you turn the manual upside down then it will be 5w-20 as your best choice.

That's insane. My own "Navara" (gas 4.0 Frontier) says 5W-30 and that's it.

Interesting that the "straight weights" get treated like the next "grade" up...reflective of their generally higher HTHS ???

Interestingly, 1969-1971 Datsun 510 manual has the following.

That is how newer Japanese cars work.
During the mid 1990s and earlier, they often had charts like the one OP posted. One some 1980s Isuzus, I would even see a chart like that right under the hood of the car! Next to it was an equally large chart that showed how all the emission control hoses were routed.
