"My mechanic said".

If I hear this one more time I'm gonna sceam!

Today a guy pulls up to the shop in an old Winnebago Motorhome. He says it's overheating.

So after figuring out how to acess the engine through the cover.....After removing the table I see a shinny new flex fan.

I hate flex fans....Especially on large heavy stuff like m/homes.

The customer said that his mechanic recomended that he remove the stock fan and clutch and install a flex.

After installing the flex he noticed that it was running even hotter. He noticed that the fan was now pushing air instead of pulling it.

His "Mechanic" said that it was supposed to do this

The thing had a reverse rotation fan on a normal rotation engine.

Fast forward to 2pm. Lady drives in and requests a cooling system flush and new antifreze. A quick check reveals very rusty coolant.

She brought 2 gallons of Antifreeze.

When the flush is done she gets in to leave. Comes back in screaming that we ripped her off!

Once we calmed her down Her exact words were "My mechanic said that a radiator flush would make my a/c cold again".


Who goes to these "mechanics"?

These are tame. This is precisely why I decided to do only expensive imports and tuners. The clientel are much easier to deal with in most situations. THey are more demanding but they have realistic expectation and understand that quality costs!!!

It has been my experince that people that use mechanics usualy do not take care of their vechiles. Most of them drive them untill something quits working then they bring them in. In most cases everything is either rusty or oil soaked. They want the cheapest parts and labor they can find. They have no knoldge of anything automotive and and have selective hearing!

If their mechanic is so good why did they bring it to you? If he was a good mechanic he would be Tech. not a mechanic!

Their are a lot of unskilled grease monkeys with a shingle hanging outside. They usualy lack the equioment and training to properly diagons A/C, transmission and PCM issues. If it is something like bad lifters, starter, parts swap, water pump ect they are fine! Most of them are just trying to earn a liveing and mean well. The problem is that they make all Tech.'s look like idiots and cost customers more money in the long run.

I have gone on record that it is easier to find an honest lawyer then it is to find a good Tech.!!!

I'm sorry if I offended you. I'm not saying that anyone should "play god" or anyone should die.

All I'm saying is this. Natural selection works on the priciple that if a person is not strong enough to survive, they aren't able to reproduce, taking themselves out of the gene pool. This is how evolution works. However with modern medicine and practices, we keep them in the gene pool. There is no thinning of the heard. Evolution as we know it no longer can function.

Please don't knock them, I thank God for them all of the time. If it wasn't for all of the stupid people I could not of retired at a very young age or made the money I did. Think of the bell shaped curve. If the stupid people disappear sooner or later we will all end up at the wrong end of that curve. If I owned a auto repair business I would embrace this type of person. Not only can you make money from them you can feel good about yourself by helping them. If they were smart they would be fixing their vehicle themselves or buying the type of vehicle that is more dependable. But you got to admit they are funny sometimes and I do know that sometimes I ARE ONE

Of course. Natural selection only works if you haven’t procreated…
