Vehicle is a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 180,000 miles, most of which are highway. As you can see, the front of the car has been peppered pretty bad with rock chips, and the headlights were basically destroyed. I first tried toothpaste. That removed a bit of haze but nothing more. I then tried baking soda/vinegar. That did a bit more than the toothpaste, but I still couldn't see through the plastic to the reflectors/bulbs. I then tried Mother's plastic polish. That made it better but still not perfect, so I went on to wet sand them with 1200 grit sandpaper. I did 3 routines of wet sanding. After that, I did about 5 passes with rubbing compound, then 3 with the Mothers plastic polish. Now I can see all the way through the housing. It's still not crystal clear, but the light output is probably 3 times better now!

Good job!

Did my 90 Volvo today with the 3M kit and my electric drill, and then applied a coating of Sylvania UV clear coat. They look very good now, and will definitely pass inspection next month.

Thanks BigD. I just read your post about that UV clear coat. The Mother's plastic polish claims to have a polymer based UV protectant, and reviews on Amazon indicated it lasts pretty well. If I need to redo the lenses again, I'm gonna clear coat them and be done with it.

Looks very good man. I would hire you to do my lady's Camry headlights

But I need to do it and not be lazy.

I think the Toyota cars from that vintage just had bad paint jobs in general.. My father in law has a 96 or 97 Camry that looks really very rough in the front too. Like three times as rough as this car. My lady's 98 Camry looks very good with no paint issues at all. I think they may have gotten it figured out by the year of my lady's Camry.

How long is the Mother's supposed to last?

Looks pretty good, but I suspect they will yellow quickly now unless you get some UV inhibitors on there fast...

+1.

I did our 02 Lexus lights last summer. Used mother's and foam wheel on a drill. Massive improvement in light output and clarity, but it will yellow again w/o protectant in short order. This coming summer I will sand/polish/coat to get some longevity to the job.

I did my Jeep a few times but recently bought new headlights assemblies on EBAY for a very good price.

Does current plastics in the headlight assemblies still get yellow haze? Or was that only ones 10 + years ago.

The Mothers product has polymer based UV inhibitors. I'll report back how long they last.
