OILNEWBY,

I would stay with at least a 10W30 for the turbo, either in Schaeffer's 10W30 Blend, Amsoil 10W30 ATM, the new Mobil 1 10W30 SS, or the Mobil Delvac 1 5W40. The Delvac 1 is showing good numbers for diesels with blowers (and most do have some type of blower on it).

Molecule,

I would have to disagree with you about the Amsoil 10w30 being their best choice in this motor. I've been testing their Series 2000, 0w30 for over 7 years, in dozens of applications (including VW turbodiesels). It will hold up better than the regular 5w30/10w-30 under ANY conditions. I don't think it is even open for debate, quite frankly. You may see a bit more shearing with the 0w-30, but the TBN retention and wear rates are better over drain intervals > 10,000 miles.

I think the basestock blend is probably a key difference, or they may be using a different type of ZDDP as well. I understand Lubrizol developed this additive chemistry ....
