I have a 2021 hyundai kona 2.0 awd.

It started burning oil in 2022.

It has a history of all top tier brand name synthetics with fram ultra filters, and recently fram ultra synthetic endurance filters, as well as top tier gasoline used almost always.

I had an OC with Valvoline 0w-20 R&P
1700+ miles ago with 0 burn.

For the last 3 years it would consume .5qt-.7qt oil in 1000mi/1600km.

It did not have the recall for the earlier year kona's with piston ring problems it just missed that year deadline by a few months.

I am very impressed with this oil. For me it is not a gimmick. I am still getting 30+mpg in town as I did with the other brands I used. (castrol, pennzoill, quakerstate, royalpurple)
But for the first time in 3 years no oil burn. It didn't meet hyundai warranty because it was less than 1qt/1000mi.

I will be using this oil at least for the recommended 4 oc's and probably longer.

I have been checking the oil every fuel fill up and have a log of it going well over 1000mi/1600km with 0 burn.

This isn't scientific, but it is a google doc I have used to record the recent oil burn.

Sounds like you have found an oil that works for you, stick with this oil for as long as you own this Car!

My sons 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 2.4L Theta II has/or had a small amount of oil consumption. Car has right at 70K now. Maybe 1/2-3/4 of a quart in a 4,000 mile OCI. Valvoline R&P (5W-30) didn't seem to do much after 3 oil changes (around 12-14K miles on nothing but R&P oil.) Changed the oil a few weeks ago and he has around 1200 miles on it (he had 2X longer trips last couple weeks) with a lot of highway miles. No oil loss. First time in a while. He also hasn't idled very much since the oil change, so that may have something to do with it as well. Anyway, hopefully it's improved for the long hall. I will probably stick with this oil in his car also. It's nice with the $5 rebate!

Nice change of events. Thanks for tracking & sharing.
Yea, thanks. I wanted to share since I have used this forum as long as I have worked on cars. I am doubtful of many claims brands make, but this time it seems legit.

Wow, I have read many such stories about those engines. That is awful. Glad he has had a similar experience as I have with the r&p working. It is sad that hyundai has had such trouble with engines and oil burn, but really fortunate a readily available oil is helping.

"As long as you use an oil that meets the spec in the manual, you'll be fine!" -BITOG refrain
Look...13 years and 140k mi this car has done well but the oil consumption was a real notice over the last year or so...like a lot in a short time. This Valvoline seems to have reversed it quickly. I hope it's real 🤣...I'll stick with it. Annual changes on this one with at most 5K mi/year.
