I purchased the 3 bottle special after reading about it on these forums, thought it was well worth a try.
The first bottle went into a 1998 Neon DOHC 2.0L that I just bought with 70,000. This is my wifes car, I do not drive it, but it didnt really have any problems. I drained the oil which was new when the Auto-rx was dumped in, this stuff was fairly nasty, lots of for lack of a better term, "gunk" in it. Seemed to clean something, again I dont drive this vehicle, and my wifes input into performance differences are not very detailed.
The other 2 bottles are for my 1985 Mustang LX 2.3L. I purchased this car with 27,000 on the odometer which only goes to 99,999. I have no idea the history of this vehicle, no idea how many actual miles are on it, I have owned it for about 8 months now, I do know that it set for 4 years outside never being started or moved. I put the Auto-RX in at 43,000 miles with fresh Quaker State High Mileage 10W-30 oil, which is very clear when new, and the old oil that was drained was fairly clean looking also. This car ran very rough, overheated randomly, and used a quart of oil every 300 miles. I am not a mechanic, dont know alot about engines so i cant be specific on my problems. I just drained out my initial treatment at 685 miles. This oil was more like gear lube or something when it came out, very very thick, a dark grey, I would be ashamed if someone saw this, they would have to think I had not changed the stuff in years. I was very impressed with what came out. During the treatment I was nervous and checked the oil before leaving for work, and before coming back home. One morning, about 150 miles into the deal I found I had lost about a quart in the previous day (60 miles a day) initial thought was wow i screwed up with this stuff, but I topped it off, and continued, this day it lost about 1/2 quart. Since then oil usage seems to almost stopped, have no clue what was up, no extra smoke from exhaust. This car runs so much better, I am amazed every day when I get on the interstate, I actually turn off the radio to listen to the lack of strange noises from the car. Its running very smooth, and has gained alot of power. It doesnt really overheat anymore either, the temperature stays in range most of the time, a few times it has started to climb up, but will not get to the red zone, and will fall back after a couple minutes, it does this on the interstate at full speed, thermostat has been replaced and the fan works. Would also like to note this problem was helped a bit previously with water wetter.
One issue i have had since day one of this car is when I start it up in the morning, it gives the big puff of smoke, also on the ground it leaves a black sludge patch under the tailpipe. What causes this, and will this start clearing up after rinse and 2nd application of the RX?
Long post, but I am amazed at what came out after using this stuff.
