My 2007 Ford Fusion turned 300K today.

The Fusion still runs great. The engine (2.3) uses about 8-10oz of oil with each 10k OCI. The head hasn't been removed, but I did change the VC gasket twice, along with a new starter 2 months ago and new injectors in November as well. The trans shifts perfect up and down, and I do change ATF every 30-40K. All lubricants have been M1 in both the engine and transmission. I use the MC FL 910S oil filter in the engine, and I also change the trans filter every other drain. My next goal for the car is 325K.
 
10K oil change interval 😳 you are certainly braver than I am. I’m surprised it’s lasted that long with that interval. But congratulations on 300K. Hoping to make it that far with my Escape though I’m bored of it and want a older Blazer lol. I’m at 204,600 something with my Escape currently.

A 1996 Merc GM with 218K when sold. A 2007 Ford Focus with 175K when totaled. And my present 2017 Ford Fusion with 143K. All these at 10K OCIs with M1 oils and MC filters.

That’s crazy. Back then those intervals weren’t heard of. Mobil 1 can claim what they want but I don’t trust them. I’ll use them for 5,000 no problem but not going above that. I’ll be honest as a mechanic majority of the oil consumption issues I’ve seen have been on high mileage cars with extended intervals. Can’t completely prove it was the oil change interval that caused it but it seems to be a similarity in all the cars with the consumption issues and no engines from those brands were known oil users so it had to be something to do with it. Oil technology has improved but not that much for that long yet. I bet you’ve had consumption issues in at least a few of those. If not you are lucky. My Escape consumes oil cause it leaks it all out LOL. Leaking out of everywhere except the valve covers cause I replaced those. Just don’t feel like pulling the engine to do a timing cover. Need to reseal the oil pan at some point. Either way I give you credit for bravery but you won’t catch me doing that. I’d trust the manufacturer before I would an oil company. I don’t trust manufacturers (I’m looking at Toyota in particular) or oil companies when it comes to intervals.

How long does it take you to run out to 10k.

I started using M1 in 1978 and have never had a car increase in oil consumption from the time I bought it till sold. If I do get engine leaks I either repair them myself or have it done. I learned how to care for vehicles while In the Navy. I was a jet engine mechanic and saw how aircraft were maintained, and I followed that experience the rest of my life.

Congrats that's a testament to how robust that car is and how good Mobil 1 is.

I had a 2009 with the FNR-5 and 2.3 for a short time....I remember that it had a cross member in the way making the A/T filter change a bit difficult....I used Castrol IMV A/T fluid because it spec'd a hard to find Mazda ATF. I sold it to a friend who still drives it. I have the 2.5 version of that Duratec in my 2016 Escape which I'm hoping to get 300K out of.

Your extended OCI point may have some merit; but it likely all comes back to the oil coking up the rings. And that can likely happen even at shorter OCIs with subpar oils. 👍🏻
 
300,000 miles / ~25mpg x ~$2.75 per gallon = $33,000

Congratulations, tig. You’ve reached a rare point where the cost of fuel alone far exceeds the purchase price of the vehicle. I’m willing to bet, at 10k intervals, you’ve spent another $3k on oil/filters, and probably $4k+ on tires, brakes, and other maintenance, bringing you to $40k total operating cost. $40k/300k mi = $0.13 per mile over its current lifetime. Impressive! 👍🏻
