Gf and I came out of the grocery store today and her brake lights were steadily on. I'm guessing it's some kind've brake light switch issue? That same thing happened to my 300ZX recently, and what it was,one of the plastic grommets on the brake pedal that depressed a switch making the brake lights go off had rotted and fallen off. How does the Mustang brake light switch work, and what do I need to look for?

Her car is a 2007 Mustang 4.0 V6 automatic.

Thanks in advance!

My dad had the problem with his Ford Windstar. He took the brake-switch out, cleaned the internal contacts and put it back together and reinstalled. You might just want to replace the brake light switch though. Easier.

Probably a worn out bumper on the pedal that pushes the switch. Look for bits of blue or black rubber on the drivers floor mat.

My rubber bumper recently failed on the shift interlock side, and I replaced it with the magnet from a broken fridge magnet. I had to replace the brake light one a few years ago with a dealer part.
