My son has a 1959 Apache, with a 283, 300 HP and a Muncie M-20. Driven hard sometimes, not abused. I am looking for advice on oil for the Muncie. I sure appreciate any comments. Travis.

Red Line MTL may be used in transmissions which
recommend 75W, 80W, or 85W GL-4 gear oils, or SAE
30 or 5W/10W30 motor oils. If a 90W GL-4 or SAE 40,
10W40, or 15W40 is required, MT-90 may be used.

Double check your spec.

Thanks for the suggestions. I bought the truck for him as his first vehicle. Delivered by truck to Memphis from Tx. Rough. Mechanically all there, I milked it home about 3 mi., it died on the street and it rolled into the driveway. Wife said "get it in the garage, I do not want that thing in the drive". That was 3 1/2 years ago. No show truck, kind of a tough hot rod look. 283, 268 cam, Edelbrock 600, double hump heads off of a Corvette, Muncie 4 speed, dual 18" glass packs. Eng. and tranny pro rbuilds, I am not good enough. I am just a firefighter, so I don't have the dough to make it much better. Original rear end. We are thinking about saving for a supercharger or a nice rear end. Travis.

Any 90wt GL4 gear oil, like Amsoil MTG, Redline MT90.....

Don't leave out any dealer or 'other' sourced GL4 gear oil.

If you use a GL5 gear oil, make sure it doesn't have any LSD additives.

Amsoil 75w-90 synthetic. It is GL4.

Do not use GL5 fluid, as it will damage the brass parts inside.

I am using Redline MT-90 in my Toyota 5 speed that calls for a 75-90 GL4 fluid. Amsoil makes a 75-90 GL4 fluid as well.

That hasn't been true for many, many years. The only GL5 available now has a "MT-1" rating which means it's perfectly safe for brass. GL5 has much better extreme pressure capability, it is a superior fluid.
