What oil is recommended for this MTD edger? How many ounces would you put in? The edger comes with 3.5 Tecumseh Engine.

Straight HD-30 or synthetic 5W-30

I agree with SAE 30wt and syn. 5W-30; 10W-30 syn. is also recommended in the manual.

Most manufacturers say to stay away from conventional
10W-30...or expect a lot of oil use.

No dipstick on this little engine? Just the fill cap? Fill'er to just below the threads on the fill cap. Can't find any online specs with Tecumseh engines being defunct. As far as engine oil viscocity, use whatever 30wt variant you have on hand. If you use it for long periods in extreme heat I'd use a HDEO like 5w40 or 15w40.
