It must be GII , but you better wait for G-MAN II, he is the MSDS expert . [ June 22, 2004, 11:15 AM: Message edited by: yannis ]

64742-54-7 is the CAS # for Group II, II+, or III. 64741-88-4 is the CAS # for Group I. This oil is probably Group II+ with up to 10% Group I.

Valvoline Durablend 10w40 64742-54-7: 74-84% Valvoline Durablend 15w40 64742-54-7: 23-33% 64742-65-0: 51-61% Valvoline Maxlife 10w40 68037-01-4: 12-22% 64742-65-0: 64-74%
In the case of Durablend, the 74-84% should be Group III. If I HAD to use Valvoline, I'd probably choose the Durablend since it offers the best bang for the buck.

Hey, this one is a Blend with approx. 15% PAO. The PAO is used as a Pour-Point Depressor and to improve the Viscosity Index.

So I could run one quart of M1 with my Maxlife and really beef it up for winter. But what about the 64-74% that apparently is Group I? I think I might make my own hi mile oil with the 5 quarts 10w40 Durablend and a quart of Mobil PAO.

Blends need be profit makers too and since the CAS #'s are the same for group II/III here , when speaking of the Valvoline base oils I would doubt seriously that the posted 74-84% of the Durablend is group III in reality . More like 30% max IMO . BTW ,the CAS Number 64742-54-7 is not the only CASR number for hydrotreated or hydrockracked stocks anylonger . There are more .

Right. Valvoline techs say all the Durablend grades are the same--about 30% synthetic. The rest of the 10w40 must be Gp II, which is a whole lot better than the 15w40's Gp I. Hey, I saw a case of the Durablend 10w40 in SJ at the store the other day.
