Please bear with me. I've asked about oil for my 2011 VW GTI before, but i'm now down to a final choice between these two. I currently am using GC. Background: I drive about 50/50 city/highway...often short trips (5 km). I only drive about 8,000 to 9,000 km/year so I will be doing ONE oil change per year I live in Toronto: so some pretty warm summers and cold winters. An oil change using X-lite vs M1 is about $40 more. I don't mind spending $40 once yearly if there is some advantage to doing so. So, should I spend the extra $40 or is that just stupid? Or just I just stick with the GC even? I'm sorry for re-hashing this and thanks

My vote would be for Motul. And if you're in Toronto you have cool winters at worse wink. GC and Mobil1 should do the job, but I'm under the impression that from seeing the Motul not burn in my friend's RSX Type-S that it is a better product.

I have tried the Motul 800 & 300V in my Maxima and the Mobil 0W40 had a better UOA. The Motul X-lite I don't have experience with. Perhaps a race forum may have the info you seek.

The reason I am interested in the X-lite rather than the other Motuls (except the 300V) is that it is an ester and seems to be significantly better than 8100 5W-40 from what I've read.

My vote is with the X-Lite, is ester based and that allows that the oil clings to the metal on the engine, you going to have better cold start protection.

The X-lite 0w30 is a phenomenal oil. It has one of their highest ester contents of anything short of the 300V. Good VI, HTHS > 3.5. If it weren't so expensive I'd run it in a heartbeat.
