Hello all, my question concerns using 300 v oil in a daily driver. I understand it's supposed to be very good, and upon visiting their website, it indicated that this oil could be used in a street motor. Now I've heard that this is not the case, and before I lay out the cash for it I wanted to look into this. (I know Redline does not recommend their racing oil be used in a street motor, just wondering if the same thing applies here). Thanks in advance your help.

Great response there vvk.

Their 300V is perfectly fine for the street. It still has older API certification and can safely be used, altho I would not recommend more than 7-10k intervals

300V is an excellent oil if you want good protection under stenous conditions. Subaru, for example, use the exact oil in their WRC cars.

The 300V has plenty of detergents, and generally did better than amsoil in a Subaru WRX in one UOA. Go to

I know of several cases where Impreza GT/Turbo cars had multiple catastrophic seal failures after using Motul 300v. The 300v is a race only oil that requires the engine to be rebuilt after short periods of use. Motul recommends their 6100 and 4100 oil for Subaru applications. Motul itself clearly states that 300v should be used for race applications only -- how can it be any clearer?

Having checked motul's site today, they have changed the description for the 300 v product. Whereas previously they stated flat out that it could be used in a street car, they do appear to emphasize that it is a race oil now. I talked w/ Redline today, they do not recommend use of their race oils in a daily driver-no question. The race oils do not have detergents and contain more phoshorous, which may damage the cat. (assuming the motor has a fair amount of blow by). Interesting-any other thoughts??????????

Mate me and my friends all use Motul 300V, and none of us have had this catastrophic seal failures you are referring too. Also countless forum ppl have used it with no ill effect.

Also on Motuls forums, they recommend the 300V to people who have daily drivers aswell. Moreover, I had sent them an email about 6 months ago, and they said it was perfectly safe to use 300V.

slipangle1, if there's any reasonable question about the correctness of using this in your car, why risk it? For instance, are they paying you to use it? If you want to use Motul, surely they have an oil that there's no question will be safe for you use.

I would only add that Motul 300V has no manufacturer approvals whatsoever and its API SH/CF rating is obsolete. How anyone can think of using this in a modern engine that is not stripped down every other race is beyond me.

Motul 300V is not designed to manufacturer's and API specs. You can read more infomation in an interview here;

Why would they go for their best performance oil? If you want the stamps of approval, use their 8100. On their aussie website they intervew a few japanese workshops and they all use 300V in all their customer cars.

Also the UOAs support the fact it has plenty of detergents on the street.

It seems you havent run Motul 300V yourself, and I have. And its the best oil I've used so far.

If the 300v was a race only oil then I wouldn't use it either. But as this is not the case I do use it in 3 of my cars and my son uses it as well.

Both quotes from the Aussie website.

Just because it has Racing in the name doesn't make it exclusive.

I would care less if it UOA proved good.

There is another UOA of 300V 5w-40. I made a mistake on Topic. The Top should've been MOTUL 300V 5w-40, 2002 WRX, 3400 miles

Can't be true. If vyk knows anything, it's Subarus. That car should have destroyed itself when running 300v. Who would believe real-world evidence over anecdotal BS anyway?
