Motorcycle storage and engine oil...

Hello, I will store my bike ( Goldwing 2008 ) outside this winter. I'll cover it with a very good covers that can breath and being waterproof.Its not the first bike that I'm storing outside, but I really like this one, but I have no room and I am not willing to pay for storage where everything get damaged by careless employees.

I'll change the oil, the filter and I will spray the cylinder, stabil in the tank, rustcheck oil on chrome and whatever that can rust and I will finish with a good wax.

In the spring,I always wonder if I'm going to have to change the oil again despite the fact that I've never ran the engine ? What about the filter ?

With the effort you put into getting your bike ready for storage I wouldn't hesitate to drive it with the oil that's already in there. The condensation that sets in while in storage is the only thing I would worry about, so just take it for a good long ride when you're ready to put it back on the road. Let that motor get good and hot and you'll burn off any moisture that would have set in.

If you're still not comfortable and feel you should change the oil (I used to be guilty of the same thing on my GS and my Rebel) then don't even bother changing the filter. Keep it in there till the next OCI.

I have a 1999 GoldWing and always store it with fresh oil and filter over the winter and do not hesitate to run it in the spring with that oil and same filter. It is stored inside versus outside and I would strongly suggest Seafoam over Stabil in the gas. Add some before putting it away and make sure to run it to circulate in through the system, make sure the tank is full also.

One other thing I do and would suggest you do also is to use a battery tender. I plug mine in about every 3 to 4 weeks and I am ready to go in the spring.

I run about 5000 miles a year on my valk,here in Ohio.
The gl motors are bullet prooof.
I'm lucky to have friends offer me a spot in their garage,but I always fill the tank with super and add stabil and take a short ride before storage.
I remove the battery and store it indoors and charge it once a month.
I change my oil once a year with 5 w 30 supertech right before I put it away.
The motor always starts on the first try in the spring.

I leave mine plugged in constantly during the winter, although I do take it off the charger for a few days each month just to let the battery go down some then put it back on the charger
