Here are some pics of a New Motorcraft FL402 that I cut open.

Looks pretty cheesy to me. Can't say that the filtering is compromised but just based on appearance it's not worthy.

I recently purchased a Mann ML1005 filter for a Ford Escort. I was hoping to receive a high quality filter that I have come to expect from Mann-Hummel. However, I received a cheap Purolator with a Mann sticker on it. I don't see a reason to pay the price for a premium product if you're just going to get a cheapo rebranded filter. I can go to K-mart and get the Purolator for half what I paid for the Mann.

I sent the Mann back and won't trust their name again. Not sure which company made this Motorcraft product but based on these pics I'd also find another source for the filter duties.

You need to comb those pleats for pretty pictures.

Not exactly packed to the gills with media, but those scrunched pleats probably don't matter much in the actual function of the filter.

What is that designed to fit?

Motorcraft filters are also made by Purolator, but some are to Ford's specs and have unique features, like thread-end bypass valves.

The FL-1998 for my Subaru is just a relabeled L14460, nothing special.

So true. I wish more people realized that!

It's looks like it depends on the mann part number
All of the new ML numbers look to be Purolator. The older numbers like 719/7 are Not Purolator. At least from the ones I have seen

The rest of what?

The part number W 719/7; Not a purlolator.
I've used a couple of other Mann W numbered oil filters but can't recall the numbers off hand

Exactly.

That's the best home grown "endless void"/blackness back drop I've ever seen in a home grown media production.

Yes it is a spin on but everyone has seen a purolator can before, standard leaf spring, nitrile adbv, and no bypass valve.

I do not know all applications but one is a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4X4 with the 4.3

Bump. This is the only thread I could find on the fl402. Has anyone used this? Any updates? Still made by tearolator? It fits my cars and I found it on sale.
