Other than ARCOgraphite, I've never heard anyone claim a performance difference due to choice of oil filter. There is no logical mechanism by which this can occur.

Everytime I install a 400S on my 4.2 V6 it turns into a 4.6 V8.

Seriously, the 400S is a great filter. Kudos to the Ford engineers (and Purolator for building it) on a great filter.

It may be the mighty placebo effect, but it does seem easier going up this 12% hill. One other factor is I used 3 quarts of Valvoline Nextgen Maxlife High Mileage 10w-40 and 1 quart of G-Oil 5w30 with the FL-400s in my '93 SL2. Would the 10w-40 juice give the engine better hill climbing spunk?

"Theoretically", the 10W-40 would be more viscous than the 5w30 which would theoretically cause more internal engine drag which would theoretically cause it to have a little LESS power to climb a 12% hill. I'm still stickin' with "placebo" ... or maybe the engine just liked new fresh oil.

IIRC, to make the 6.8L V10, Ford installs 2 FL400S...

Could be but the previous OCI was only 2126 miles, a mixture of 2 quarts of Mobil Super High mileage 10w-40 and 2 quarts of G-Oil 5w30 and a Fram HM3600 filter.

I run FL-400s on my "06" Toyota 4Runner and they run great I seem to have less start up noise then any other filter I now have 160,000 miles on the truck and I have used the 400s for about the last 60k.

I bought more Motorcraft FL-400s filters at AutoZone tonight. I'll probably liquidate my lesser filters now. I flew up that 12% hill tonight like Mercury on a mission.
