Snapped a couple pics of the Motorcraft filter I just pulled off from when the dealer errantly drained my 800-mile old Ravenol DXG & Fram Ultra XG10575. This OCI had about 1500 miles pulling a 9k+ lb trailer through TN/NC mountains, and has a 5 Star Tuning 87 Perf-Tow tune in it. Oil was MC 5w-30, not sure if it was semi or full syn and will be sent for a UOA. Looks pretty good IMO.

Media tears ... do a search in the Oil Filter forum.
Oh wow, did not know that. That's very interesting to hear. I never once doubted the 820 because everyone in the Ford groups swore it was one of the greatest ever for the price. Never knew about the tearing though. Thanks for the heads up!

There's been lots of photos posted here over the last 5+ years. No other chat board probably cuts open to inspect oil filters like this one - that's why the Motorcraft "fans" on those boards don't report finding torn media. Of all the Motorcraft oil filters (made by Purolator BTW), the FL820 seems to suffer from the media tearing. It's not "rampid", but it happens more than it should. Some Purolators have also shown media tearing.

The 820 will work fine for 3-4k runs. I wouldn't go longer than that.
