Yes, great cool cars! But are highly modified engines, not stock 1300 cc displacements. To achieve those performance speeds and times, you'd need displacements of 1900 cc or more, with very high compression ratios.. Heck, some engines in the videos were even blown!

I learned to drive on a 69, then drove it for years through high school. Man I’d have gotten into a lot of trouble with one like in the video!

In the early '80s at Hamptons raceway on Long Island, there was a VW bug with a smallblock chevy. On the side the car had the saying "Live and Kicking". It left quit the impression on me.

I had a 65 bug 6" chop top, 1641cc, dual Dellortos.... fun for a while.

Love me some air cooled VWs. Worked in a VW shop after high school. Had a '66 Bug on a '69 pan with a 2110cc motor, dual Webers, good cam, very nice heads... ran high 13s and was a daily driver. Fun times.
