I think Redline is a combination of mostly polyolesters with some PAO as well. Both have their advantages. I believe the esters will handle high heat a little better.
One point of interest is, the polyolesters cost about 3X as much as the PAO basestocks. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it is the main reason why most synthetics contain little if any of this basestock.
